American Idol’s Top 8 Shouts to the Lord! American Idol Gives Back

In a historical repeat of the Emmy winning episode of “American Idol Gives Back”, the Top 8 composed of David cook, Brooke White, David Archuleta, Jordin Sparks, Chris Brown, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Carly Smithson, and Syesha Mercado sang the popular gospel song Shout to the Lord. Shout to the Lord is popularized by Don Moen and was always used by Catholic Charismatics in their prayer meetings. I used to play this song during my YPC days and I was astonished in hearing that they sang this song because other talent shows seldom feature gospel songs. The top 8 repeated their rendition of the song at the end of the show while wearing an all white costume. At the background were choirs wearing blue togas that resounded the chorus. It was fantastic. I had goose bumps watching the episode especially when photos of children were shown on the wide screen. The show was aired last April 9 on Fox. The said event was made even more dazzling by the presence of big names in Hollywood like Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens (hehe), Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams join previously announced international talent and sports figures Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart and Gloria Estefan. Watch the very moving video of AI’s Shout To The Lord version and some of the show’s highlights. The beneficiaries of the said Charity show includes the Children’s Defense Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save The Children, U.S. Programs and the Children’s Health Fund.

dalawang beses kong napanood yan. akala ko nung una, nanonood ako ng prayer meeting o kaya Don Moen concert. Buti naman, naisipan nilang magpakanta ng mga gospel sa mga candidates and give the show a bit of Christian bent. Medyo nadisappoint lang ako kasi they didnt speak in tongues at the end as how that song is usually concluded. hehehe…oops!
peace po sa mga myambro ng Charismatic!

haha if they will speak in tongues I think the judges will have to get interpreters of ancient languages haha. Pero when I was a charismatic before, I always speak in tongues. Someone actually interpreted what I said in russian which at that time I do not know any russian words.

I just don’t see the point why MJ was voted out after this IGB singing “SHOUT TO THE LORD”. Not against the song but where’s the heart if the producers wants to kick somebody ass from this most-viewed singing contest?

    Well, “CHEERS AND APPLAUSE”.

And oh, who is Kristy Lee Cook?

Yeah I agree kuya K actually we were not the only ones who were shocked by it. The whole AI viewers were amused by the turnout, not only because it was an Idol Gives back event, but also because MJ was a tough contender for the finals. My personal favorite is syesha and david cook plus MJ who was booted out.

BTW, David’s voice is unbelievable. He can sing the most grunge of all rock song and he can belt the highest of all notes.
