The wonders of TUBBATAHA REEF of the PHILIPPINES

Tubbataha reef is one of the Philippines most protected marine sanctuary to date. It is because of this natural wonder that people In Palawan has been considered fortunate to have this rare eco-system in the center of the coral-triangle of the world. Tubbataha reef is home to 396 species of corals, 479 species of fishes, and networks of pyramidal eco-systems. The issue of Tubbataha reef has long been discussed that only now, with its “no-take” policy, the reef reaps positive results. The reef in the 1980’s were exploited so much by citizens and foreigners alike that it was declared a protected are to conserve this natural habitat. Its inaccessibility contributed much to its conservation. Before, vessels from China and Taiwan pillage not only the corals but also turtles, fishes, turtle eggs and bird eggs. The reef is currently nominated as one of the seven wonders of the natural world and is ranking 26th in the latest tally. I am urging all Filipinos to not only conserve Tubbataha and other 439 protected marine parks in the country, but also vote for its bid as the seven wonders of the natural world so that it would serve as an awareness to all people that our eco-system and our environment is in dire need of preservation.
