How would you know if the blog author is male or female?
By bluepanjeet on Mar 16, 2008 in He Said She Said

Yesterday morning as I was doing my Ka Pepe, Pareng KK sent an email message in one of our groupie mail exchanges. I got particularly curious on his side comment that a certain website predicted that most of his entries are written by a woman. Knowing Pareng KK alot, he is assigned in China and there is no way that Mrs. Kotseng Kuba could have written his entries for him since she has a blog of her own. So being an inquisitive person, I tested the accuracy of the so-called Gender Genie myself and tried it on my own posts.
The Gender Genie is actually the brainchild of the BookBlog inspired by the article published by the New York Times. The said gender checker could actually predict if the unknown author of a blog is actually a man or a woman or just posing as such.
I tried it on my three recent posts: 1 very masculine post that I just wrote and two of my sentimental topics. The results where all the same. Check this out:
Stop smoking and pay your mortgage

So how does this Gender Genie tell if the author is a man or a woman? It uses an algorithm that calculates the amount of feminine and masculine keywords used in a certain entry.
So if you want to know the supposed gender of the author of a certain blog, try the user Genie. Though it’s accuracy is quite doubtful because writers are by instinct creative in their entries and topics chosen, yet we could have an intelligent guess of what the dominant gender of the writer is.
All of us have our own feminine and masculine traits. Psychologically, it is normal for a person to have such mix traits. Remember that the male chromosome is composed of the X Chromosome (female gene) and Y Chromosome (male gene). It only depends on what trait dominates you.
Bonus: I tried it on one of my readers here in the OTWOMD who happens to have no blog of her own and does not want to show us her real identity even though she exchanges email with us and chat with us that often. One time I asked her if she could show me her picture because I told her that I’m not comfortable in talking or chatting with people whose gender I don’t really know (Check this post, you’ll know why). but she persistently declined my offer and avoided the topic so hard that I began to doubt if this reader is really what she claims to be or just another gender poser who hide in the guise of a female archetype. The result was staggering, I myself cant believe the result:

The Gender Genie is not to be used to tell accurately if the reader or writer is actually a man or a woman. It is just a guide on how a certain blogger writes his entries, because sometimes it also fails to tell the gender, like in the case of KotsengKuba who is married to Antipatika.
To use this in order to judge the person’s gender or preference is not ethically right since we have to reserve the right to meet the person first before we make any conclusions. Actually even if we already know that person up close, still we have no right to question their gender preferences. Man and woman are born equal, just like Adam and Eve. it doesn’t matter if a blogger is a man or a woman, as long as he or she is making an important contribution to the blogosphere and in the society in which she or he belongs.

nyahahaha, this post was written by a female
the gender genie says most of my blogs are female. so is ambo and malen.though it says reynz and connie veneracion are both males.
the genie is counting the usage of connective words like is, are, like.. etc. does the genie believe that women are more likely to use the correct grammar?

haha. di ko chicneck ito dun. it seems though. Women I think are more careful in writing their piece grammar wise. while men tend to be mediocre, basta na express yari na haha
My question on that genie is its accuracy. I entered one of the post of Letty Jimenez magsanoc and it says its a male, while the column of Conrado de quiros was said to be a female’s work haha. I agree with you, it depends of the usage of the articles and key words LOL
pero its really fun since I got the chance to check some of the famous writers work. out of ten work that I checked, only 3 got the correct prediction on the gender.
