Stop smoking and pay your mortgage!

7

I am pestered by this vice for several years now. Actually, it started as a mere curiosity, which later became a burden. Burden in a sense that a large sum of money is exchanged for a few minutes of pleasure. That is not all, what about the smoker’s cough, tars in teeth and bad bad breath that makes you want to gargle a gallon of mouthwash. I really wanted to quit but it is easy to say, so hard to do, and that is the painful truth of smoking. And did you know that the money I spent with all those cigarettes could have actually bought me a car, purchased me a camera, or sent me to the Caribbean for a vacation?

I read in Fairinvestment.co.uk that a smoker can spend as much as £2000 yearly if the cigarette consumption average is 20 sticks per day. That is a lot of money. It also said that the money could be kept in a bank, or can be used to pay back debts and loans, instead of burning it all the way to your lungs.

The news is actually interesting since it enables smokers to think twice and encourage them to correct their bad expenditures. I very much agree with what James Caldwell, Director of Fairinvestment.co.uk said, that non-smokers are more financially blessed compared to smokers. It is because non-smokers have more capacity to pay off debts and Mortgages than smokers do. Instead of buying packs of cigarettes, the money of non-smokers goes straight to their prioritized and necessary expenses.

What caught my attention was the last part of the news: smokers supposedly have higher insurance premiums than non-smokers do, precisely because a simple lighting of cigarette while driving can cause smoking related accidents.

This news really made me reflect on how much money I can save from senseless cravings on temporary pleasure.

By this time, I will really try my best to quit smoking and channel the money into a more productive investment. It is like hitting two birds in one stone: having a healthy lifestyle and a healthy wallet all at the same time.

mangunsensya ba :?: though i agree with the computation though it’s easier said than done. you know, the soul is willing but the body is not. i do hope though that the soul will be dominating one of these days.
