One life to live

Last February, upon listening to a radio program there was a breaking news about a truck loaded with rice and crashing into a house along the Maharlika Highway. The Driver apparently avoided a motorcycle in near collision, and turned the wheel on the right side, hitting an old wooden bungalow hut instead. You should see the picture. The house was a total wreck and the cargo of rice were scattered all over the highway. The owner did not anymore recover all of its merchandise because passersby and bystanders looted all the goodies. As if the series of unfortunate events was not enough, two children died from that horrible accident. Their bodies were found underneath the front wheels of the truck. The owner, having lost all of his goods and taking home the remains of what used to be the only truck in his possession, agreed to pay all of the damages that the accident caused the family, including the lives of two innocent children. But that was not the irony my friends.

Upon filing for insurance claim, the insurance company of the owner said that they could not finance the damages since the owner failed to pay the monthly premium and has been due for the last 4 years. The Car Insurance added that since the premium was delayed, they could not immediately grant the owner’s claim.

According to the ASEAN Summary Insurance Statistics of 2002, the Philippines alone had 139 insurance company, second only to Indonesia. But the problem is, people in general are not aware of the importance of insurance.

In the Healthcare field in this country, millions of lives are lost because most hospitals cannot deliver the appropriate surgical procedures and medical regimens to patients due to lack of insurance. How many times have we seen on TV, people crying over spilled milk just because they took for granted an opportunity to insure their own lives from such common disasters happening in the grand scheme of things.

Like me for example, I am already in my early thirties and I need to be secured. Who knows what might happen to me tomorrow or the days to come. That is why, aside from my present insurance, I am still planning to buy a Car Insurance in the near future. But, my insurance company should have the best quotation service that they can offer. Some insurance company are well equipped and efficient in finding clients the best quote for the type of insurance they are interested in.

Come to think of it, we spend so much money buying sports cars, jewelries, gadgets and other luxury items yet we overlook the most essential protection of all: Insurance.

In this modern age, where our life is at risk, wherever we go, whatever we do, we must always secure our need to prevent our very lives because we only have one life to live. Something to ponder upon to secure our own futures…

In case you were wondering, the driver of the truck was found by the Police in a nearby hospital lobby; bloodied and injured from the accident. He was given first aid treatment but was deprived of an emergency surgery because he had no insurance policy. See what I mean?
