In the 1987 Philippine Constitution, Article 3 SEC. 4. of our Bill of Rights, it is stated that ‘No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the Government for redress of grievances.’ This basic right of the Filipinos to air their sentiments and be heard either in print or in tv is actually a free expression of democracy and free will. Yet this freedom bestowed upon us should not remain idle and still. We need to open our senses to what is happening in our midst, and air every sentiment we feel relevant to say. Investigating, analyzing and scrutinizing every issue is the fullest expression of freedom, not only of speech, but also of our existence as Filipinos. To scrutinize issues as they come our way is an acknowledgment of our involvement in the grand scheme of things of our nation’s history.
