The Ousting of Marcos in 1986 did not began as a genuinely solid action. It is a sporadic discontentment expressed in various manners necessary to shake the foundations of Malacañang. It took at least 20 years before the strongman fell to the ground from his pedestal, but that was, in hindsight, a concerted effort, much to our surprise, a tiny, sporadic effort that blew up into proportion. The recent issue of the NBN-ZTE scam is just like that. As I may compare it with the dark days of the Marcos regime, sporadic cases of defiance were documented throughout the land by Filipinos either in print, tv, music and rallying to the streets, which were met by either imprisonment, harassment, termination, torture and death. Unfortunately all of those random and divided acts at that time, were finally glued together in an unexpected turn… The matter of public opinion became overwhelmingly loud that these varying opinions shared by all Filipinos that time, conglomerated into one big shout that toppled the stronghold of Marcos to power: “Tama na, Sobra na, Palitan Na”. In this critical times, when the nation’s leadership is in a balance whether to hold on or to let go, public opinion matters no matter how sporadic, isolated, divisive and opposing they may all be. Because in the final analysis, it will all sum up into what the nation really wanted: Truth. Unity of a nation is always seen in the diversity of opinions.
