Milenyo A Year Ago

109

It was this very same quarter of 2006 when the three Super Typhoons hit the Quezon Province and Bicol Region, crippling the economy of both region and rendering thousands of Filipinos homeless, jobless and hopeless. It was a year ago and now another super typhoon is coming. In the eve of the storm’s arrival, I thought posting the photos that I took and sent my family i the states because I was all alone here in our house a year ago. Below are the photos of the aftermath of Typhoon Milenyo in our area.

SANY0387

The Master’s Bedroom was flooded because the wind tossed the rain against the window. Water then comes in through the hood of the sliding windows.

SANY0383

My Nephew’s room was also flooded.

SANY0386

So as my room in which the direction of the wind was towards my room’s side.

SANY0385

My Computer table was not spared. Rendering my CPU soaked in water.

SANY0384

Even my bed was flooded.

SANY0382

SANY0381

SANY0380

Our house is elevated 3 feet above the ground. But the flood waters came through the windows. Very clever storm.

SANY0379

Our dirty kitchen was not spared. Even the dog foods were soaked with flood water.

SANY0378

See the mess. It took me a week before I finally dried everything. Being alone was not a good idea after all.

SANY0377

The Dog house of one of our “askal” was also tossed by Milenyo.

SANY0375

Milenyo left a damage on our roof gutter.

SANY0374

I had to put Mielle, my beagle in the kennel for his protection.

SANY0373

My dogs became instant refugees when their houses where smashed by the wrath of the storm.

SANY0371

The Greenhouse which I built was mercilessly thrown 5 feet from it’s location.

SANY0366

The Aratilis three behind my room bowed on the power of the of Milenyo.

SANY0365

The vast rice field beyond our fence at the backyard were 2 weeks away from harvest, all destroyed by the angry winds.

SANY0361

I had to muffle my window sill with rags outside because the waters were gushing forth into our house like a brook from a spring.

SANY0360

One of the walls of the houses on the eastern side of our house was torn by the winds.

SANY0356

Our temporary bamboo fence fell like Dominoes.

SANY0352

The lily bulbs I planted were all drowned.

SANY0351

And so as my mom’s Belgian roses.

SANY0348

My Mom’s orchids were shredded into pieces. Some of them were as old as me.

SANY0347

The irrigation that use to water the rice fields, watered even the road and the houses along it.

SANY0346

Our house an hour after the storm.

SANY0343

Playing Domino.

SANY0342

One of the farmer’s hut’s wall were ripped, not by thieves but by Milenyo himself.

SANY0340

This house just a block away from us collapsed because of the roof that dropped on top of it. The roof came from the Highway and flew towards our village. Who needs a kite when roofs can fly?

SANY0338

This used to be a very large tree. Now who would believe that it was?

SANY0335

The Banana plantation in our village was no match for Milenyo’s anger. No tree was left standing.

SANY0332

This is the shortcut going to the highway flooded with 4 feet deep irrigation waters. Before this shot was taken, snakes were seen floating on this area.

SANY0330

The Banana trees said to the Meralco posts “The Mighty will stumble and fall…” and they all did. Six of them to be exact which deprived us of electricity for 1 month.

Walang makakalimot sa bagyong si Milenyo i’m sure. Grabe ang pinsalang iniwan sa atin nyan. Alala ko tuloy yang bahay mo kapatid. Nung anjan kami.
