Exit Lando, Enter Mina
By bluepanjeet on Nov 22, 2007 in Gaea Watch

Last year, in the absence of my family (they were in the US), and in my journey alone here in this very same house, I experienced three super typhoons in the solitude of my existence. I had no electricity for a month because the typhoon Reming and Milenyo hit our Province and nearby Bicol big time that it knocked off 6 of the Electric post in our street. It was like a domino effect. Not to mention the keloid scar on my right arm due to a slash from a flying roof while I was rescuing a neighbor from a same accident. I was like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix, avoiding the flying roofs that are dragged by the anger of the howling wind while I bent my self in slow motion.
And as I was reviewing my Genito-Urinary MS, I heard on DZRH (my dad is a big fan) that there is a typhoon hitting again our province. I immediately googled the Typhoon Mina (International name:Mitag) and saw this image on PAGASA. “Look at the size of this typhoon, I have to blog this” I said to myself. Last year I wasn’t able to blog about the three typhoons until after the storm was over. now I should grab the chance before electricity is cut off again.

As of this writing, Inquirer.net latest report on the tropical storm is as follows:
It was raining here non-stop since Saturday up to now. Today the atmosphere here is very quiet. very calm. It is as if nothing disturbing would happen. But beginning this evening, Tropical Mina will grace our province once again and this time its coming from the south. The calm of the atmosphere is a prelude to the coming chaos. It’s the deep breath before the great plunge. It will be strong i’m sure because there will be no barrier against this storm.
Usually when storms come from the north, we are not affected because we are often sheltered by Mt. Banahaw. Strong typhoon winds are often crushed by the mighty presence of the mystical mountain. But this time, Mina coming from the Bicol region towards our province is surely scary because we are naked of protection.

Lucena City is a natural catch basin, if not for our large and wide rivers and clean sewers, we could have ended up as the flood capital of the Philippines. We are below sea level and are often the route of the waters coming from theBanahaw channels. I pray that “Bathala” (God) would protect us and also the Bicol region from this 140Kph Storm and still gaining strength as it nears the land of Virac Catanduanes…
As of this writing, PAGASA reported that the point of entry of Mina will be the Alabat Islands, just south of Lucena City and will directly hit the Bondoc Peninsula (Southern Quezon) and Marinduque Island. If ever OTWOMD has no updates till Sunday night, it just means that there is a power outage here in our area.
Tonight, It’s signal no.1 here, tomorrow night, who knows… Pray for us…
