Insensitive

Are you familiar with Bell’s palsy? It is a form of facial paralysis in which the cause is unknown. Sometimes it is due to viral infection or oftentimes it is just your facial nerves that are screaming for Vitamin B12 nourishment. 4 years ago I suffered Bell’s palsy (yeah, it is not a women-dominated disease) from viral infection. I never knew that my face was already sagging if it were not for my friends who thought that I was smirking. When I assessed my face on the mirror, it was positive. At first, I thought it was an asymptomatic mild stroke but upon my check in to the hospital, my neurologist told me that it was Bell’s palsy. For days, my left face was so insensitive to cold and heat that I felt it was perceptively thick.
But my post is not about pathological numbness, paresthesia or paralysis of the face (I don’t want to get too medical on my blog), but it is about how some people become so insensitive that they can’t anymore feel a slap on the face, literally or figuratively speaking.
Gretchen Malalad was attacked by Bong Alvarez while doing her job. She got her bell’s palsy not from a virus but from Alverez’ elbow jab. Numb in the face, Gretchen is literally insensitive at present while Alvarez was also insensitive to human rights and public manners. See below:
Wowowee host Willie Revillame was caught on cam having two numbers in a single wheel while showing the viewers where the 2 Million Jockpot prize is in their newly launched segment called “Wilyonaryo”. This actual blooper gained many protest from viewers and even from TFC subscribers, saying that the game show is rigged or trying to cheat the contestants. Revillame does not anymore need to acquire Bell’s palsy because his face is so thick that he cannot anymore distinguish proper decorum from inappropriate behavior. Watch video below:
So what is the difference between the two issues? Gretchen Malalad who works for the network had a hay day of publicity from various shows of ABS CBN like Umagang Kay Ganda, Homeboy, The Buzz etc. While the alleged and obvious cheating of Wowowee Host Revillame did not get any story at all from the Network’s public affairs program considering that people flocked you tube for comments on the show’s incredible number shuffling. Do you remember the “Dancing Inmates” of Cebu Provincial Jail? Well they got their exposure because of YouTube. But this very inimical and morally questionable issue of the show’s credibility (which also started in you tube) did not produced even a single second of exposure. Biased?
There are two likely possibilities:
1.They are sensitive to the network’s interests
2.They tend to be insensitive to issues, which they choose not to sensationalize because of the network’s interest (again).
Either of the two, bottom-line is, they are too insensitive and too numb to face the fact that the number of people who are actually disgusted on ABS CBN’s ethics and integrity is really growing. The Ultra Stampede, The PBB Wendy Incident, The Angel Locsin Controversy and Now this Wowowee Cheating Spree. I know its business but for crying out loud, pretend just a little bit that you are not insensitive to the sensitivities of the Filipino Viewers.

inis ako dyan kay willie … i dont find him entertaining at all. I dont believe that hes running the show to help other people, its more to me that hes much interested with the money and fame rather than helping others. I just watch wowowee the other day. The way he handles his co-host as well as the staff makes me furios. It seems like hes running the show, that he is the boss and that everyone should follow what he says. TSKTSKTSK. Call me anti-willie, well the guy doesnt have any credibility for me at all.

@ ronnie - he never seemed sincere. Kita sa tao yun. He doesnt have to hide it coz it shows.
@ Russ - yeah. it felt really bad especially when you are smiling… you always end up being laughed at because of the sagged face. I’mvery thankful it’s not permanent.
