Prom Prank

53rd

Those were the days when there were no mobile phones, no text messages, no beepers, no internet chat rooms and emails: only paper and stamps which we fondly call letters. They say that letters would not last forever, but in this series, I will feature some of his memorable letters from days of long ago. These are manuscripts from friends and past relationships which helped me become what I am now and contributed much on my continuous journey towards my dreams. The letters are wrapped in different moods, different emotions and different approaches, yet the message is clear: The Journey We Call Life. A glimpse of what was it like to become the “Walking Contradiction’s” friend, family and special someone. A peek into humanity’s most spontaneous and candid moment’s expressed in the verbal word with all the characters’ wit, immaturities, shallowness, grammatical errors, corny and cheesy sentiments and most of the time with a touch of depth, love, care, friendship and thoughtfulness for me. All of the sender’s name, address, person or places mentioned have been deliberately deleted or covered in order to protect the identity of the real people involved.

Armypic(184) Thumbelina and May (not their real names) are my High School friends who sent me these two notes an hour apart, 2 days before our prom night. When I read Thumbelina’s note, I was thinking that I would agree to be her partner since our school (Catholic as expected) did not allow us to bring our respective girlfriends to the ball. Outsiders were strictly prohibited in our seniors night. So “what the heck” I thought. My girlfriend wouldn’t mind because she knew all of my male and female circles. After an hour, we were having our computer class, a second note came, this time coming from May. The gist of her letter was the same as Thumbelina’s. Now this made me sweat blood. How would I ever take one to the ball and reject the other since they are both my barkadas (cliques)? And to consider one of them on the basis of face value is totally out of the question since they are both attractive, aside from the fact of course that they were like sisters to me. So I decided to reject both of their offers so as not hurt any of them. But to my surprise, these two approached me on the corridor the next day, and told me that they were just messing up with me. They were trying to freak me out and I think they really did scrambled my brains and splattered them to the wall. “Those B****es” I mumbled to myself (LOL). Some of us went to thc-(22)Ae Prom without any partners (in my case, because my girlfriend was already in college), except for those whose love birds are from our batch. Lucky for them, they didn’t have to look and worry for their respective partners. But you know what, some of my barkadas were tied to their luvy dovies the whole night while I got the chance to take 14 of my girl barkadas and classmates to the dance floor to dance with me. It really paid-off having so many girl-friends (kaibigang babae) and a college girlfriend (Just kidding) This was my prom pic in case you ask. Virginal and Innocent!

Sometimes jokes (or prank with their own chirographies) like that includes some elements of truth. I suspect they are your admirers. In HS we did things like leave short notes in some books to our crushes, part of growing up I guess. “Love and Lots” or “P.S.” is very much wide-spread in High School eh?

I didn’t show off in our prom. Not for the lack of partners, just didn’t like the idea of dressing up in a tie & suit.

    Looking good blue.

Hahahaha no. they will kill me if they found out that what you are actually saying is what I had in mind LOL.

They’re just really good friends. They’re like sisters to me. We belong in the same circle that’s why they are so comfortable with me. Hehehe, I miss them a lot though. Thumbelina is already in Canada and May.. hmmm.. don’t really know where she is now.

yeah I know, with all the fuss of the tie, I too was kinda uneasy with the suit I was wearing at that time. It was so darn hot and itchy inside…

    celebrating friendship this rainy season!!!
