August 18, 2011 – Pope Benedict XVI arrived at Plaza de Cibeles inside his Popemobile to the cheer and jubilation of hundreds of thousands of young pilgrims lined up on the streets. Many of these young pilgrims have secured their respective spots hours before the Pope arrived,others even slept on the ground while waiting for the Pope, while some got excited and carried away by the hype of the Pope’s arrival. So any one can understand the joy of these pilgrims upon seeing the Pope pass by. Day 3 of World Youth day could have been marred by controversy if Gay and Lesbian protesters succeded in their diabolical plan of making out at Calle Serrano as Pope Benedict XVI pass by. Good thing the Police was quick to respond and they blocked the protesters from going to the rendezvous site even before they could gather. The Pope was compassionate with the Pilgrims waiting for him that his Popemobile actually circled the whole block of Plaza de Cibeles just to greet young Pilgrims who were there from a distance.
