August 18, 2011 – Don’t you think that Nuns are the most loyal to the Pope of all God’s servants? Wherever you go there would always be a nun or two in every corner in every street in World Youth day events. In WYD Madrid Alone, 1 out of 30 Pilgrims is a nun. That is the ratio during the five day celebration. Actually World Youth day wouldn’t be such if not for these Nuns. They are the Catholic Church’s walking reminder of the power of Celibacy and consecration to God. They serve as the Catholic Church’s walking advertisement for a life of prayer and devotion. It is as if whenever you see a nun, you are quickly reminded of vocation. The habit is actually a magnet for vocation promotion. Most religious orders and groups of nuns doesn’t realize that. Sadly in most first world countries such as Australia and The United States, nuns choose not to wear their habits for the sake of progress and convenience. Actually during the Canonization of St. Mary McKillop, all of the nuns belong to her order doesnt wear any habits. They just have this piece of blue scarf to identify themselves. What a tragic and ironic situation to be in: The Saint who was canonized wearing a habit has for a religious order which advocates for not wearing one. Seeing so many nuns wearing their habits in different hues and color imaginable is a sigh of great relief. We can still hope that religious life will flourish because of these nuns who choose to wear their habits despite the heat of the sun.
