WYD-2011-Day-3-catechesisAugust 18, 2011 – For three consecutive days right after the WYD Opening mass, every morning in World Youth Day is spent on Catechesis. And because the primary office of a Bishop is teaching (according to John Paul II’s book “Rise, Let Us Be On Our Way”), most Bishops attending the World Youth Day 2011 are scattered all over Madrid to be speakers, teachers and retreat masters for young people attending the Catechesis. Usually, the Bishops who speaks at Catechetical events are the same Bishops coming from that region. If the Catechesis is intended for Portuguese-speaking Brazilians, therefore a Bishop from Brazil can be the resources speaker or it can also be from other countries who speak the same language. It can be a Bishop from Portugal or any Portuguese speaking nation in Africa. The Catechetical events are organized in cluster language in order to maximize the resources of the speakers and at the same time will be easy to group pilgrims, that instead of using geographical locations as the primary consideration in clustering pilgrims, language specificity is preferred. There are also times that nations who doesn’t belong in the six major languages are clustered together according to geographical location and uses one of the six major languages as the language of instruction for that particular Catechetical event. LIke for example the Philippine Pilgrims are often clustered together every World Youth Day with other Asian Pilgrims and uses English as the primary language of instruction.
