Cibeles Square is one of the most historical and beautiful square in Madrid. It was specifically chosen by the WYD organizers as its venue not only because of its historical significance and beauty but also because of its floor area which is conducive to massive celebrations and assembly. The Cibeles square is adorned by two beautiful structures, namely Cibeles Fountain located at the center of the square and the Palacio de Cibeles which served as a facade for the Square. Palacio de Cibeles was once a museum but the Madrid Government decided to turn it into a City hall which is what it is right now. During the Opening Mass on August 16, at the break of dusk, when darkness and light are clashing, the Palacio lit up and behold behind the state is a mammoth structure illuminating the backdrop with the Spanish Skies just behind it. It was beautiful. The Photos you will see below is not just the Palacio illuminated but also wide shots and perspective shots taken with and within the palacio de Cibeles.
