Here is a first look on the design of the liturgical vestments that will be distributed to priests and bishops for them to wear during ng the Celebration of Holy Mass with the Pope. Few people know that the production and design of liturgical vestments are part of the culture of world youth day. Every world youth day, thousands of liturgical vestments are sewn specifically for the event, usually with recognizable logos of that specific wyd incorporated in the design. Liturgical vestments consist of priests chasuble, bishop’s mitre, stoles, altar lines and other liturgical linens. These seamstress you see in the picture are just part and parcel of the massive worldwide network of voluntary sewing program which the World Youth Day organizers launched to solicit manpower in order to sew and create thousands of linens and vestments that the priests and bishops will use during the week long event. Even nuns were not spared from volunteering; one convent in Brooklyn New York pledged sewing 20-30 vestments for world youth day which they sent to Madrid last month. The current design in the vestments include the familiar shape of the cross in the logo of the Madrid WYD incorporated on the mitres and chasubles, and the logo of the Holy Name of Jesus intricately embroidered on one of the vestments.

I received a stole while at WYD in Sydney. Each time I wear it many joyous memories are there. It is one of my “prize possessions.” These look beautiful. How I wish I were there again. Thanks for keeping us informed as to what is going on. God bless you.
Hello Fr. Martin,
Hold on to your stole. It is priceless, so as other souvenir items from the past world youth days. Good for you you kept the stole.
Pax et Bonum Brother
My husband was so honored to participate at this year’s closing Mass with the Pope. Unfortunately on the way back to the hotel as he walked through the streets and traveled the Metro, he somehow lost his stole.
Is there a way to get a replacement?
Thank you for any assistance!

@ Shiela.
Do you even know what a stole is? It is exclusively used by priests during mass and confession. How can your husband have a stole if he is married to you????
