This is another rare and old footage of the first ever world youth day held outside Rome. Buenos Aires hosted the World Youth Day for 1987 in Argentina attended by hundreds of thousands of young people from all across Latin America and the world. The two minute and a half clip is a rare glimpse of Buenos Aires youth vigil attended by Pope John Paul II Himself. The clip shows John Paul Ii just descended from the Pope mobile and on his way to the stage while joyful songs are being sung at the background. A letter from the young people, a tradition that has been practiced on all world youth day vigil up to now, was read by an Argentinian Youth. The letter’s gist was about thanking John Paul II for the gift of World Youth Day. Pope John Paul II on the other hand was attentively listening to the Youth’s reading of the letter. This particular clip shows us the original format of the Youth Vigil and how other world youth days share some striking semblance to it. Special thanks to Gustavo Rector for the clip.
