masive-stage-on-wyd-2011-madridA massive stage is now taking shape at one of World Youth Day 2011 Madrid’s venues. In Cuatro Vientos military airbase, Pope Benedict XVI will meet young people not only from Madrid but also from different parts of the world for the scheduled Vigil with the Pope and Final Mass respectively on August 20 and 21. Previously we blogged about our first glimpse of the Cuatro Vientos airbase wherein a large steel frame and scaffolding is being set up. First we thought that it was bleachers for the participants, but we later learned that it is a massive stage where Pope Benedict will say mass. It will take 50 days to build the stage and as of this writing it is now taking shape. Heavy concrete blocks have been placed at the base of the stage to secure its stability. less than three weeks from now, we will already see the full appearance of the stage. WYD organizers are advising young pilgrims who will attend the event in Cuatro vientos to  bring along a high SPF sunscreen, a hat, and water for hydration because the summer temperature will be high. Pope John Paul II was the first Pope to visit and said mass in Cuatro Vientos back in 2003 in one of his patoral visits in Spain, 2 years before his death.
