NBC’s “The Today Show” kicks off the official start of summer season for most western hemisphere countries by doing a live show at the Vatican. This Morning, host Matt Lauer met Pope Benedict XVI during a special audience with his holiness and he was accompanied by New York’s beloved pastor, Archbishop Timothy Dolan. Matt Lauer presented the Pope with a gift which according to him is a Crystal Cat (the Pope is rumored to be a cat lover). Lauer was also at St. Peter’s square when Pope Benedict gave his daily message for the people gathered at the square up in the balcony. The host is going to do toady a “Day in the life of the Pope” segment for the show which will feature exclusive footage of the Pope’s daily activities. At the same time, the Show will tackle the current status of the Catholic Church this 2011 and the major issues surrounding the Church. This is the first time that Today Show in its almost 70 years of history, have done this kind of live broadcast. Usually the show is more inclined in doing stories related to politics and entertainment. Watch out for tomorrow’s broadcast of the show as it takes you behind the scene footage of Pope Benedict XVI’s life as the Universal Pontiff of the catholic Church.
