Previously: Teresing, the alleged visionary of the Lipa Apparition, experienced the final attack of the Devil which the mysterious lady foretold, this time with forceful physical manifestation of an already angry dark creature who tried tearing her clothes off. The Postulant escaped the grasp of the demon as she ran towards the stairs only to be pulled again by a mysterious hand against her will. The Mother prioress as she walks by saw the struggling Postulant and heard her scream against an unseen creature, she tried pulling Teresing towards her but an invisible force was stronger on the other side which Teresing could only quip to describe as “as if my body would be torn in halves”. After the attack of the Devil ceased, the Mother Prioress noticed that the Postulant’s eye became as white as Ivory and was mysteriously blinded.

Before you go on you might want to read first the previous parts of this series.

part-5

When Teresing accepted the request of the Lady to sacrifice for the conversion and salvation of others, she went blind after the final attack of the Devil. Teresing also received the names of the priest or nun she was to suffer as revealed to her by the Lady. However, what was strange was, in Teresing’s blindness, Mother Cecilia, the Lipa Carmel Prioress seemed to anticipate the Postulant’s ordeal. Some claimed that the Mother Prioress already received instructions regarding Teresing’s blindness through interior locution. An Interior Locution is a mystical phenomenon wherein a person receives a set of ideas, thoughts, or visions from an outside spiritual source. Interior locutions are most often reported during prayers and is a form of private revelation, but is distinct from an apparition or religious vision because no supernatural entity is reported as present during the mystical phenomenon.

In her account, the Mother prioress revealed that a mysterious voice told her in advance that Teresing would suffer in blindness. The voice also instructed her of specific dates and times when the Postulant would need her to stay by her side. Interestingly enough, Mother Cecilia also disclosed that she also had a fore knowledge of the date Teresing would recover her sight: September 7th of 1948. Yet will all of these knowledge, not a single hint of the interior locution was revealed by the Prioress to Teresing.

The nuns at Carmel knew nothing of what was happening between Teresing and Mother Cecilia because the Carmelite Order’s “Spirit of Death” prevent them from asking, inquiring or commenting on the affairs of the two.

A clinical psychologist and a member of the Catholic Church’s commission which investigates paranormal phenomena within the church, Dr. Maria Dolores De Leon, took interest on the Lipa case and interviewed several important eye witness on the apparition. One of these witnesses is Sr. Alphonse of Mary O.C.D. who passed away after her interview. The said nun claimed that she stole a look at Teresing’s eyes during her blindness. She was the only one who came very close in seeing Teresing’s eyes. At that time, all Carmelite nuns except the extern sisters (Porteras or the nuns who were excepted from the cloisetered life and who manage the external affairs of the convent) wore black veils. When Sr. Alphonse lifted Teresing’s black veils, she was convinced that her eyes were really blind because it was all white, the white of the eyes. Dra. Dolores De Leon stated that Teresing’s eyes had probably rolled up and in some cases like hypnosis, such occurrences are possible. But Teresing was not in the state of hypnosis, hysteria or any psychological abnormality at that time.

She had no reason to induce this. If there was something she didn’t want to see around her, that was possible, if she had any enemies for example, or an event she dreaded— for example, the coming of this negative force— that would have been enough to make her close her mind or her eyes to it. However… this occurred after the devil had stopped coming. So there was no reason for it. -(From the interview of June Keithley for the book Lipa)

Dr. Dolores De Leon also noted that Teresing’s blindness occurred two more times and that the postulant did not self-induced her blindness.

Teresing however was anxious that her blindness could get her rejected from Carmel. She was not allowed to go around because Teresing couldn’t see a thing. She highly depended on the Mother Prioress on certain activities such as taking her to chapel when prayer time comes. And because of this dependence and a very private knowledge on the Postulant’s condition, some rumor had also surfaced among the nuns that a lesbian relationship was developing between the Prioress and the postulant. But Dr. De leon who conducted some tests on Teresing proved on the contrary:

So in the test that I gave, it did not even show that she had strong masculine tendencies or strong feminine tendencies. It was very average.

Teresing, because of her blindness, gained her the confidence to ask the Lady one initial of her name. arequest that was granted by the Mysterious Lady nbot only with one, but with three initials: B-V-M. On August 30, 1948, at the presence of Mother Cecilia, the Carmel prioress, Teresing asked the Lady if she could kiss her foot.

When Teresing touched the Lady’s foot, she described it as soft and very fragrant. The softness of the foot was likened to silk and she only reached to kiss the nail of the Lady. She wanted to kiss the other foot but Teresing was convinced that it is already enough for her that she kissed one foot. She also revealed that at first she had second thoughts of kissing the feet because of so much awe and reverence to the Lady that she felt she’s not worthy or she couldn’t kissed it out of humility.

On September 7, 1948, Teresing’s blindness ceased. Bishop Obviar came that day and was ushered to the Parlor by the Portera at that time, Sr. Elizabeth of the Sacred Heart, OCD. She saw the eyes of the Postulant from a distance and she claimed that it was different from our ordinary eyes. Bishop Obviar, Lipa Carmel’s Chaplain approached Teresing and made a sign of the cross on both her eyes. Immediately, Teresing regained her vision. She jumped out of joy and was very happy. Bishop Obviar quipped to teresing: “You must be in Peace now”…

the only way the eye could be “white” would be from rolling them high up. Ordinarily, if a person is blind from pathology, you see a white scar but still see where the iris of the eye is, except in late stage scarring.

If the witnesses hadn’t seen this, I’d worry about a brain problem (neurological pathology). But a high “eye roll” is common in those who are highly suggestible.

Even in 1948, one would expect someone to have had her checked by a physician. Was she?

The fast “cure” by blessing goes along with this.

It is a “conversion reaction”, what used to be called hysterical blindness. I’ve treated cases of conversion reactions in the US and in Africa.

But sir, as was stated above, an official Church commission had already examined her in the Person of Dra. De Leon in 1948 and there was no findings in the original report that she was highly suggestive/suggestible, hysterical or in some kind of abnormal psychological state. The Dr. was even interviewed on the Keithley documentary in 1992 and has vouched her findings. This said interview was submitted to John Paul II by Keithley herself in an audience with him in Rome. The documentary was finally put into a book called Lipa. These is one of the many reasons why the negative declaration of the Bishops at that time is questionable because all of the members of the commission did not find any single hint of fraud in Teresing or in the Apparition itself yet the bishops signed it otherwise against the Apparition. And some of these bishops confessed before they died that they were coerced by a foreign church official into signing the negative declaration under the pain of excommunication…

Tingin ko malapit na rin siyang ma approve. as of now there is a group of priests in the Archdiocese of Lipa who are working for her cause to have it’s official recognition. Last october yung bishop ng Lipa personally went to Rome upang makakuha pa ng ilang documents about the apparition. Saka a good number of Bishops and Cardinals in the Philippines have already expressed their personal belief in the apparition. so I think wala nang reason upang pagdudahan pa yung apparition sa Lipa. Pero syempre hindi natin mapipilit yung mga tao na ayaw maniwala. Kahit si Mama Mary in her message, she is not forcing us to believe . Pero I think time will come na makikita ng lahat yung totoong nangyari. I’m praying for that. By the way announcement lang regarding her cause: if you know somebody na gumaling or na convert or naka experience ng healing through her intercession kindly write a letter to the Carmelite nuns in lipa. They need it for documentation for her cause. Saka yung 1 million rosary campaign for her cause. hanggang Dec. 8 po yun. If you want to send pledeges please wirte to Fr. Melvin Castro. Bishop’s Residence Tarlac City.

Jun, alam mo ba na meron ako isang reader dito na kung ano ano aliases ang ginagamit para makapagcomment at para madiscredit ang Lipa with all his lies and deception? He even accused Cardinal Vidal of something. I do not know where the hate is coming from. But this poser is definitely is lost.

I will answer his lies and delusions point by point soon. I’m just gathering all his accusations.

I will post it soon. Busy lang.

Ay opo. mali kasi yung pagkaintindi ko noong una when i first heard the news. I thought this was already the pronouncement of the commission. Pero yung Ban pala ang tinanggal. Parang nawalang bisa yung verdict noong 1951.

It’s a good news indeed. Anyhow, It would be nice if you can provide us the source of the news or the link of the news so that our readers can verify its veracity. Otherwise it would just mislead the faithful. I have searched high and low of the news that you are talking about yet I cannot sem to find it even on the CBCP website..
