Another reader sent us an interesting letter yesterday from a blogger who was a former nun and currently a nurse with a PhD. It’s been a while since I last receive an email from a reader. These past months, there have been a bulk of emails coming from false advertisers and scammers to which I don’t reply. It’s very refreshing to read a letter from an OTWOMD Reader:

Hello Bluepanjeet,

You are a very intriquing fellow. We have alot in common besides our favorite color and its use in our pen names.

I was a Catholic nun, the Immaculate Heart Community in Los Angeles. If you have ever seen any of Corita’s art, she was also in this community and a good friend of mine. I am a psych nurse, probably a better choice for you although you would probably be a wonderful hospice nurse.

I live in Washington State on Whidbey Island. BTW the feast of St Therese’ Lisieux is Oct 3rd.

I am fascinated by your diverse interests.

There is a film I think you would really appreciate. Angels in American by Tony Kushner is a magnificent story set in the 1980s during the AIDS epidemic. It is brilliantly written and beautiful and poetic.

So here we are thousands of miles apart but sharing a love for all things Catholic. I have to confess I can’t deal with the patriarchical doctrine of Catholicism but the practice as it is done around the world is beautiful.

BTW didn’t you have terrible mudslides last week? Take care and let me know how you are.

Hello Eileen

Thank you for visiting OTWOMD. I’m glad you saw a common ground between us. I bet the story behind the use of your pen name is also as interesting as mine.

Nope, I haven’t seen nor heard about Corita’s art. But I am glad that you were a former nun. It somehow gives us a common ground to relate with.

I live here in the Southern part of the Luzon Island here in the Philippines, and no, we didn’t experience Mudslides. We are thankful that we are spared from such calamity, yet we are also grieving for the lot of our Filipino brethren in Capital Manila just kilometers away from where I live.

The official feast day of St. Therese is October 1. It’s in the Liturgical Calendar of the Church and not October 3. October 3, in the Franciscan Liturgy is the feast of St. Francis’ “Transitus”–the eve of Francis feast day which Franciscans celebrate.

Don’t be fascinated, I’m not diverse, I’m just inborn weird LOL

I haven’t seen that movie but I will try to find time watching it. Based on your review it seems that the movie is really interesting.

The Catholic Church is my life. I can’t seem to shake it off from my system. That’s why whatever I do in and out of the blogosphere, it seems that they are all catholic-related. I have meto so many priests and seminarians here in my blog and through the years we became friends. Internet is  the new medium of Catholic Communities.

Though I agree that the Catholic Doctrine is a bit patriarchical yet that was what the Lord originally intended since time immemorial. Deeper understanding of the doctrine and an innate humilty can help us better understand the significance, necessity and importance of the gender roles within the Catholic Church.

We are okay here in the Philippines. We are used to mudslides, earthquakes, typhoons and even corruption-stained officials, but we always get back on our feet.

We ask though that you continue pray for our fellow Filipinos who are still devastated from the recent flood and calamity.

Thank you so much and continue reading OTWOMD.

May God bless you in all of your endeavors. Rest assured that I’m with you in prayers.
