First there were flower power and tie-dyes, then came prints, then graphics like johnny cash t-shirts, and then spoofs.. now its the statement T-shirts. Statement T-shirts are those t-shirts whose design is plain and basic with no prints of whatsoever, just plain color and a text is printed on it. Usually the text is about a political conviction, a statement of belief, a witty sarcasm, an activists’ plea or everything that can make a statement. One such famous statement T-Shirt that has been very popular lately is the t-shirt that has a big X on it and says “every x has its origins”. This t-shirt was circulating around the world as a promotional racket of the movie wolverine. The T-shirt worked like a charm since it goyt the attention of the people and many people bought that which led to the awareness of the coming X-men Origins movie.
In some countries where political strife is rampant and common, statement T-shirts are often seen on protests rallies, telling everyone how the protesters feel, their own political stand, their agenda or a sarcasm for the person or group they are up against. Actually, the more the witty and catchy the statement, the more they are given attention by the people.
But not all statement T-shirts are political in nature. Sometimes TV-shows are statement T-Shirts too. The logo of the show serves as the statement itself telling people that you love to watch the shpw or you are a fan of the show. Sometimes nga, these tees are actually status quo symbol. The hard to get expensive tees that you have, the greater is your status symbol. Shallow but true. But What the heck, its not about status quo but about fanaticism of the show.
Like me example. If I would wear a statement T-shirt I would go for Wolverine, or UFC t-shirts, but never a seinfeld t-shirts. How about you, what is your statement tshirts
I love reading statement tees but never had one except shirts from our class at the university or from our apostolate ^_^
