Oldest Monk in the world died at 108
The oldest monk in the world had just died at the age of 108. Can you believe that. These days, being a centenarian is already a feat. Not many humans can actually reach that kind of lifespan. Theodore Heck, a benedictine monk in St. Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, Indiana died in the monastery infirmary (I think this is the same seminary where Dom Lawrence is currently having his theological studies. Not sure but it seems it’s the same seminary). Anyhow, if I will have the chance to ask Dom, he will confirm it for us. Going back to the monk, it seems Brother Theodore lived a full life. I wish all people can live that long to fully say that “hey I served the Lord for 100 years!”. That would be so cool hehe.
Brother Theodore Heck was born Jan. 16, 1901 in Chariton, Iowa, Heck was ordained to the priesthood May 21, 1929. He earned a Ph.D in education at The Catholic University of America in 1935, and for more than 50 years taught in St. Meinrad’s minor and major seminaries and held various administrative positions in the St. Meinrad schools.
He was subprior (the third highest leader) at the monastery for 17 years and served as prior (second-highest leader) for three years. He was a founding member of the American Benedictine Academy, serving as its first president from 1947-1957.
At age 70, he began 17 years of pastoral service as vicar of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston, Ind. During these years, he continued to teach on the college faculty.
The Office of the Dead will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday in the Archabbey Church followed by visitation until 9 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m. in the Archabbey Church, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Archabbey Cemetery.
May the Good Lord bless Theodore and may his soul rest in his peace.

hey blue, greetings! yeah- Fr Theodore is from the Abbey of St Meinrad that manages the seminary of st meinrad where I am currently studying. I will post more of him in my blog- this week, musta ka na? tenks pala sa pag link mo ng article about fr Theodore sa post ko.

Hello Kapatid Dom. Musta na ang studies mo dyan? Wow I’m so proud of you ilang taon ka na lang pari ka na. Ako? eto busy na busy. Juggling so many things into one. Multitasking at its finest.
A very rare feat indeed especially in the context of Western lifestyle.

Bro. Bluep, kilala nyo po ba si Fr. Uldarico Camus? Isa sya sa mga missionary priests assigned sa Sacred Heart Parish sa Bahrain. He is a Capuchin priest. I will be visiting Bahrain this coming May 7. I will try to get in touch with him.

Bro. Yes I know him Kaya lang he doesnt know me because he was always in the mideast when I was in the seminary. I met him once during the provincial activity but it was a casual meeting since we seminarians at that time has so many responsibilities from cooking, decorations, programs etc. How did you know him? Send my regards to him.

thanks my friend!.. this week is our last week in the seminary- kahapon ay graduation, mon to wed and finals then hakot ko na gamit ko pauwi new mexico for summer, nga pala inilipat ako kasama ng isa kong confrere ng aming abbot sa isang seminary sa pennsylvania by August, sa st vincent seminary near pittsburgh- baka doon na ako magtapos ng divinity and get ordained- our community is hardly hit byu the ungoing recession kaya cant afford na itong magpaaral ng may bayad- ( eh for the last two sems dito sa st meinrad ay 100 percent free tuition fees kami ng isa kong confrere pero next sem ay may bayad na daw na 50 percent, so nagpanic ang superior ko at napilitang maghanap ng seminary that can grant us a hundred percent free tuition and there they found st vincent… hayy blue, simula na naman akong mag adjust sa lahat lahat- pray for me brother!…
ano pinagkakabisihan mo dyan kapatid? miss ko na ang tsikahan natins sa emails…

Buti nakahanap si superior nyo ng seminary. Kala ko religious are spared from the recession hindi pala. Alam mo ako din affected ng recession. Before, my ka pepe is thriving here pero ngayon wala na. I also quit wring paid reviews kasi malas sa PR ng google. so I decided to play it clean na lang with google ads. mahina ang kita pero at least safe ang PR.
Mahirap talaga ang transition kasi panibagong ambience na naman. panibagong pakikisama. Pero yakang yaka mo yan with the Lord’s help.
Naku paalis muli ang parents ko papunta tate. kaya busyng busy ako dito sa amin. Aside from that may podcast ako kapatid. pakinggan mo naman haha. Just click on the logo on the sidebar tapos choose an episode. tapos play the player. ayun mapapakinggan mo na ang boses ko haha.

ay tama ka dyan kapatid- kasi may domino efefct ang nangyayaring recession ngayun- op kors directly hindi kami apektado pero ang mga benefectors namin ang apektado directly kaya in the end ay apektado kami dahil nagbawas sila ng mga binibigay na donations sa amin-kung dati rati ay one thous dollars binibigay nila monthly- now ay ginawa na lang nilang 5oo or less pa. kaya hirap din kami sa funding- so auster na auster ang pamumuhay ng community ko ngayun at talaga naman super higpit sa akin ang aking sup sa pag gamit ko ng credit card- . uyyy- talaga? saan sila dito? eh sana sumama ka na lang, peroi am sure madami ka ngang pinagkakaabalahan dyan kaya tyak di mo magagawang umalis- aba, galeng mo naman- sige nga tatapusin ko lang itong week na ito- this is the worst week in a life of seminarian like me- patung patong ang mga gagawin- simultaneous pa- nag re review ako for liturgy finals and medieval philo then sisingit ko ang pagpapatuloy ng aking sinusulat na research papers sa Ethics and Philo of Man… hayyy nakaka windang kapatid- by the end of this week ay mari-relieve na ako — at araw araw kong pakikinggan ang poscats mo….
we need to catch up with each other- it’s been a while na natahimik ang mga email inboxes natin hahahahah…. ingats ka lagi– i am keepin you in my prayers always!

naku buti hindi nauubusan ng buhok si superior nyo. ang laki ng iniliit ng donations sa inyo. I really pray na sana makaahon na ang us sa recession. Kawawa naman mga naapektuhan. kami din eh kaya kami di makalis alsi mga nurses gawa nyang recession na yan.

Medieval Philo? hahaha naku lalo ka makakalbo nya. Sina Duns Scotus at Bonaventure yan diba? pahirapan yan haha. Dyan masusubok ang theological skills mo kasi yung iba theo natin eh naka found sa medieval philo.
Yung ethics madali lang. maning mani mo yan haha. Yang Philo of man basic yan. Sina Heideger, Nietszhe yang mga yan diba?
Good luck kapatid sa endeavors mo this week. I will include you in my prayers. Actually di ka naman nawawala sa prayers ko araw aaraw. Kayang kaya mo yan kapatid. Unahin mo muna yang mga deadlines mo bago podcast ko haha.
