A new political-religious painting will be unveiled on New York City’s Union Square during Obama’s 100 days in office. D’Antuono’s painting caught the attention of the media because of his depiction of Obama as likened to Jesus. The 30″ x 54″ acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross: atop his head, a crown of thorns; behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. The painting called “The Truth” is a symbol of worship of Obama, in an over-the-top depiction of him looking like Jesus when he hung on the cross. The purpose of the painting is primarily to honor Barack Obama during his 100 days and is not to put him in equal with the divinity of Jesus (the painter said). The Artist of the said controversial painting anticipates and hopes that an intelligent exchange of opinions and views would be generated by the people.D’Antuono also believe his painting called “The Truth” to be a politically, religiously, and socially charged statement about Obama and the American people right now.

My Take:

If D’Antuono wants a charged statement or wants to extract intelligent opinion about his paintings of Obama, he should have painted the President as Herod instead, killing innocent children. That I think will satisfy him to the full once people began to debate about Obama’s abortion policies. The depiction of the Crucified Christ is obviously the wrong choice.
