The Official Site for the World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid is now Online!!!

This item was posted in WYD News, World Youth Day and has 35 Comments so far.

wydLast February, I received an email from the official website of the 2008 World Youth Day in Sydney, sending its last email alert and somehow bid its final farewell to the youth of the world by announcing that their website is officially closed. And in the twilight of this closing is an opening of another website for the next World Youth Day.

Yes my dear brothers and sister, the official website of the World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid is now up and running, thanks to my curiosity and CIA skill in stalking.

The Website is not indexed in all english-language google search since the official language used (as expected) by the official website is Spanish. Thats why in order to appear in Google, one must fill in a spanish keyword. Good thing I know a little bit of spanish.

In Spanish speaking countries and in the Latin Americas, the words World Youth Day is not popular. Actually, the exact Spanish translation for the words World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid is “Jornada Mundial de la Juventud 2011 en Madrid”.

That is why if you google “World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid”, you will never find the site. But once you key in the official Spanish translation, “Jornada Mundial de la Juventud 2011 en Madrid, you will see that its on the top index of the search results. Thus if you want to know more about JMJ 2011 (WYD 2011) learn to speak spanish haha.

The Website Domain Name (URL) by the way was created on July 28, 2008, just days after the closing of the WYD in Sydney. Actually its a wise decision for the organizers to register the domain name as soon as possible so that no other “domain panic buyers” would be first in registering the domain. Look at what happened to Pinoy Idol. They failed to register the site immediately thats why sploggers and abusers took advantage and registered the domain for themselves, leaving the Pinoy Idol site oblivion and nowhere to be found on google even if it was already online for months.

My further CIA mode on the nature of the JMJ 2011 site revealed that it is based in Catalonia, Spain (Madrid’s Province) under the Planalfa Network. The registration was made in the name of the Archdiocese in Madrid.

The official site is not yet fully optimized and filled with contents, but its big banner shouts aloud to the world of its birth.

You can visit the official site at: www.jmj2011madrid.com

You can also contact the Archdiocese here for more information:

    Hi,
Thanks for the information. We are located in Guam (out in the pacific) and can’t do much until the official website is open and is taking registration for the passes, meals, etc. i tried hooking up with a group from the states or from europe, but they will only assist us from a US State (even though we are a US Territory) – so we have to make plans to get to LA or Newark and then they can assist us from there. Any suggestions? When do you think they will name the actual place (main place) so we can start hunting for hotel accommodation? H E L P!! Thank you =) and God Bless = ) Tricia from Guam

    Hello Trish

I believe they are not yet going to register pilgrims. Its too early. The cross and icon has just been passed on last palm sunday and it will take a year or so before they allow you to register. There is already an official place, its Madrid Spain.

The best thing you can do right now is be active on your parish, contact your Parish Priest and tell him your desire to go to Spain for the World Youth Day, be ready spiritually and paray to God that your Visa wont be denied.

I am inlonging to report the exact spirit of the festival, in a first hand account, on the only National Catholic Church Newspaper of Ethiopia to which I work as an Editor. The support is Not only just to one person me, but will be great contribution to the Ethiopian YOUTH.

Hi Im Dan from the philippines, I am a Church youth leader …Last year my Parish sent a delegation to the WYD 2008 in Sydney, Australia and fortunately I was one of them. My Parish shouldered al the expenses then. But now I am doubtful if my they could still send a delegate to the world youth day 2011 since spain is too far and really expensive, on the other hand we are affected by the financial crisis..I am very willing to join and participate the wyd 2011 not just for myself but for my co-youth in our parish and for the community where we actvely participate… is there anyone or group in Spain you know that is/are willing to sponsor? thanks!
