I just watched the “An Inconvenient Truth” documentary of Al Gore for the Nth time today and still I am continuously bothered by the outcome of the report. Many people does not realize the urgency of our planet’s situation and still has managed to politically infest Al Gore’s documentary with criticism and black propaganda. It’s a no-brainer that the ones directly affected by this film was the multinational companies themselves because they are the ones who contributed much to the decline of our earth’s stability. When I googled around for the topic of climate change, i found so many interesting reads that corroborates the facts presented by Al Gore. And some of these facts are the Photographs taken by Gary Braasch that were exhibited around the world. The Photos show the past and present look of the Glaciers and polar ice caps around the world and how they melted away due to global warming. Look and be alerted by the sense of urgency that these photos bring.

Argentina’s Upsala Glacier was once the biggest in South America, but it is now disappearing at a rate of 200 metres per year. Other scientists say its reduction is due to complicated shifts in glacial dynamics and local geology.

The image above is from an 1859 etching of the Rhone glacier in Valais, Switzerland, and shows ice filling the valley. In 2001, the glacier had shrunk by some 2.5km, and its ‘snout’ had shifted about 450 metres higher up.

This is a section of shoreline at Cape Hatteras in North Carolina in the USA, pictured in 1999 and 2004. The southern United States and Caribbean region were battered by a series of powerful hurricanes last year. Rising sea levels are also expected to speed up coastal erosion.

Other parts of the world could face even more drastic change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a consortium of several thousand independent scientists, predicts that sea levels could rise by between 9 and 88cm in the next century. This would threaten low-lying islands such as Tuvalu in the Pacific. These images, taken this year, show the effects of a higher than usual tide.

As the climate warms up, mountainous regions may experience lower levels of snowfall. This image shows Mount Hood in Oregon at the same time in late summer in 1985 and 2002.

Tree-eating wood beetles are likely to benefit from a warmer climate and reproduce in ever-increasing numbers. These images show damage to White Spruce trees in Alaska caused by the pests.
If Al Gore is lying as claimed by his critics, then these photos prove otherwise. If we don’t move now, I assure you that a few years from now we will all experience a tremendous change that we haven’t experienced before. Actually its happening already, you’re not just aware of it.
TO BE CONTINUED…

I watched the movie after reading your article here bro. My first reaction was to feel the urgency you mentioned above. Our islands here in the Pacific are sinking not because of their weight no…but because of the rising sea level. We do not have any SNOW or GLACIERS, we do not have any MEGA-FACTORIES – but we only have SANDY BEACHES, PALM TREES AND A HANDFULL OF COASTAL VILLAGES. AND THESE LITTLE THAT WE HAVE IS SLOWLY BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM US BY THE ACTIONS OF SOME “CLEVER/SMART” INDIVIDUALS/GROUPS WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE JUSTIFIED IN HELPING SINK OUR ISLAND HOMES FOR THEIR INTERESTS.
How would they feel if they were in our shoes?
Yes they will jump and keep on jumping until they are heard. But we of the Isles of the Pacific, no matter how high we jump we will always be ignored.
But we still hope and that is what we cling to.
We support you for informing others about the great sense of urgency to look after our precious earth…it is still not too late
Vinaka.
