The song “Yesterdays Dream” was composed by Ryan Cayabyab for the Mermaid International Children’s Song Festival in Hiroshima, Japan as the song piece for the country’s representative on the said international contest. Donna Cruz and Timothy Villegas of the 14K represented the country and bagged the Grand Prix besting 8 other ASEAN representatives. But official recording of this song was done by the 14K during their stint on their official album. 14K was a group of singers from the 80’s up to the early 90’s under the tutelage of Maestro Ryan Cayabyab?s School of Music. 14K Stands for “fourteen kids” which was selected from the graduates of the said musical school. Soon the group launched its own album. Some of its graduates include theater artist Johann dela Fuente, Rhada Cuadrado of Kulay, Arnee Hidalgo, Isabel Granada, Caselyn Francisco, and Jolina Magdangal. Most of its alumni are now performing as solo artists.

YESTERDAY’S DREAM
Written and Composed by Ryan Cayabyab
Performed and recorded by 14K
Grand Prix Winner in Mermaid International Children’s Song Festival
Original interpretation by Donna Cruz and Timothy Villegas

We are the children of yesterday’s dream
We are the promise of the future we bring
Waving the banner of love to all
To every nation the rich and the poor

Refrain:
We are the world of the restless and young
And we need a hand to guide us
Helping each other, build each other
As long as we’re together you and me

Chorus:
For together we stand, divided we fall
Together we climb to the top of the world
We can be what we want for the world to see
That we are the children of yesterday’s dream

We have the yearning to do what is best
Be someone special from all of the rest
Nation and brothers in unity
Building tomorrow for you and for me

(Repeat Refrain and Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)

We are the dream come true…
That we are the children, of yesterday’s dream..

When my son assigned by the teacher to sing yesterdays dream I was so excited to find the lyrics and the whole music of this. Its an honored that my son will sing this very meaningful and very touching songs for the children of this future. My son is 5 years old, and he uses to sing some songs that he heard from radio or cds but this time I found the songs that suit for him and for all of his age. Thank you to Mr. Ryan Cayabyab for composing this songs. God Bless…..
