World Youth Day 1987 in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires was the first country that hosted the international even of World Youth Day. 1n 1987, just a year after the EDSA Revolution in the Philippines, a staggering 900,000 young people graced the event. The Pope’s last stop on his 3 country journey (Uruguay, Chile and Argentina) made history as he entrusted Argentina to the Virgin of Lujan. This was the start of the the tremendous event of World youth day around the globe, which catapulted Pope John Paul II closer to the young people of the world. This was also the first time that the Pope visited Argentina.
