2168359617_397156c3b3_oAs the meme promised, The Christmas Tree Blog Parade will be Featured on the Feast of the Lord’s Epiphany or widely known as the feast of the Three Kings which is today (January 6, 2008), the official end of the Christmas Season.

Conceptualizing this meme was not easy. I have to figure out the feasibility of this tag. I also considered that not all bloggers are Christians of if they are, would have the tradition of putting up Christmas trees in their homes during Christmas. But then again, as a family oriented man, I see Christmas trees as a symbol, not just of the Holy Family, but also the family in general.

My Dad and I were not accustomed in decorating our Christmas Tree, it has always been my mom and sisters which decorates our tree. But having no Christmas tree during Christmas is empty for us since we always put under the tree the presents and gifts for our family members, relatives, God-Children and now, our nephews and nieces. It is a tradition that we were accustomed to. Least to say, The primary goal of the Christmas meme has nothing to do with the decoration nor the pomp and fame of lifestyle each blogger had during the Christmas season. But as always, OTWOMD considers the deeper meaning of every post, and in this case, the meme that it has to promote. This meme was originally conceptualize in order to:

  • Promote the spirit of Christmas around the blogosphere
  • Spread awareness of the true meaning of the Christmas Tree
  • Encourage the family members to have a bonding around the Christmas tree
  • promote Christmas cheer and camaraderie among bloggers
  • and fulfill the natural way of earning links via purposeful memes like this in contrast to empty link baiting and viral link tags which OTWOMD previously contradicted.

I admit that I was reluctant at first because this Christmas Tree thingy is really awkward because of its connection with femininity and gayness, as Buraot had hilariously put it in his entry Haha (Which really made me literally roll on the floor laughing with his own version of the rules). But then again, in conservative families like ours, The man of the house have his own contribution to the Christmas Tree. Usually, the father is the one who makes sure that the Christmas lights around the tree is working. And to some extent, the father is the one who puts the last decoration on top of the tree–The star of Bethlehem or an Angel that represents the announcement of the Birth of Christ.

Though the turn out of the participants were not that numerous, but the viability of success of this meme was measured on the richness of the creativity and effort that each blogger has put up in their entries. To sum it up, this Family-oriented Christmas meme is deemed by OTWOMD as a successful meme.

I would personally like to thank everyone who participated in this meme for their selfless effort considering that it’s really not easy to find a tree, or put up a tree in advance, or unexpectedly, take a self photo of other’s Christmas trees just to participate in this meme (like Diwa who took a shot of the Philadelphia Christmas tree haha, or Chuva who stole a shot of a Christmas tree inside a Mall or something or Reynz’ candid moments with his lover’s tree haha and Vera who took the liberty of putting a Christmas tree in their house in which his uncle is a moslem). I am very much thankful for all of you especially during the times that I was busy with my review and exam.

I am also in gratitude to iRonnie and Rebecca who somehow took the time and option to put an alternative entries in order to promote this meme (iRonnie has no Christmas tree and Rebecca avoided Christmas trees because of her pet cats). And to Chuvaness for being the first one to put up her tree on her blog (may longganiza ka sa akin haha) and especially to my Guardian angel, Lola Tekla who did most of the tagging via her Three Blogs. Most of the participants came from her tags and voluntarily did the meme as a proxy for iRonnie (blessing in disguise ka talaga kapatid).

I would also like to apologize for those who participated but did not put up a picture of a Christmas tree. I did not include their entries because there is no Christmas Tree to show. I don’t want to surmise that they only put up an entry just to ride on the tag train, but rules are rules.

I would also take this opportunity to ask also for your help. If in case a blogger friend of yours joined this meme but was not included below, please do let me know. It is likely that they haven’t put the links properly on the copy-paste area of the mechanics (as in the case of Tina which I accidentally found just today). Technorati and Google Blog links are not that up to date in our current Wordpress dashboard that sometimes links are not entering or are delayed in being indexed, that caused me to overlook their entries. If the cases above are true with your friends, please let me know so that I can include them in the Blog Parade. Their entries are well deserve to be recognized.

With this, let me welcome you to the Official Entries of the 2007 OTWOMD Christmas Tree Blog Parade in order of appearance in the blogosphere. Witness the Christmas Spirit of People around the world reflected through their Christmas trees, big or small, simple or elegant, yet full of the joys and Happiness of the Christmas Season (please click the images to enlarge).

ChuvanessThis is the actual Christmas tree we have in the living room. Ahahaha, I?m sorry guys, I?m not really into big Christmas trees and stuff like that. My place is too crowded already but hopefully, someday when I have a bigger house, I might setup one. It will be 6 feet, with sparkling blue and stylish silver accents for a classy look. I actually like to setup a real pine tree. For now, I?m quite happy with this one plus I think it looks cute and very convenient, no hassle, easy to setup and no maintenance! (ed’s note – *Chipmunk voice – “Christmas tree” hahaha)

2nd---enelym001-wordpress-c

JoviAnd here?s my tree. Well, it?s more of a ?bush? kasi it?s kinda too small to qualify as a tree? :-P I don?t have that much space in my house with all my knick knacks and other clutter pero buti na lang nagkasya pa itong Christmas ?Bush? ko na may miniature manger scene (Belen) below it. The mini manger is a wind up thingy and if you wind it up it?ll play ?Silent Night?. This one?s around 2 feet high and the table that it is placed on is around 2 feet also so 2 ft. + 2 ft. dibay dibay the square root of 3.1416 raised to the 9th power carry 5 borrow 1 from 3 = A four – foot Christmas ?Bush? which I decorated myself. Kaso di ko nasindihan yung Christmas lights kasi I couldn?t find the extension cord. Oh well?

KotsengKubaMy beautiful wife Chinky and lovely daughter Tifa Mari with our Red and Gold themed Christmas Tree. Red and Gold is the theme for our Christmas tree this year and it was designed by my ever-glamorous mother-in-law, Mommy Pilar, in Tagaytay. The Christmas tree was originally accented with big red ribbons but due to the advent of our little angel, it has to be kept away because she never stopped pulling them piece by piece whenever she gets near.

4th-kotsengkuba-com

StineThis isn?t this year?s Christmas tree, but it?s pretty much what it looks like every year? We don?t decorate it until the 22nd or 23rd, and a couple of days before that, we go out and chop it in our woods. So – sometimes it?s got all its branches on one side, sometimes we have to put a lot of effort into getting it into the base, and always, always there?s a moment of drama when the lights won?t work? The star at the top of the tree was made by my father from chocolate tin foil wrapper in the days when my parents were students in France (around 1969), and money for Christmas ornaments was non-existant. I?ve hung on to it?

5th---mumsgotta-com

AmorIt has been our Christmas tree for 4 years now. If only we have bigger space and budget, I would buy a new one, ang daming magagandang display sa mall! Sean was about to sleep when I asked him to pose beside the Christmas tree, mukhang napilitan lang sa pag smile!

6th---amor-francis

AmboOur Christmas at home is simple but looks elegant. We blended the yellow, green, white and gold colors from the tree, balls and ribbon. Our Christmas Tree has 800 lights and stands 11-feet in height. The whole family designed it. We hope you like it. Merry Christmas to all!

7th---ambo

Thess / Thesserie / Lola TeklaThough I agree with the saying that Christmas isn?t about decoration and physical stuff, still? living in a foreign land that isn?t (really) celebrating the 25th of December, I just have to have a Christmas tree. Between 1991 up to present, I have only celebrated Christmas in the Philippines twice. .. so yes, I do miss our native celebration. This tree (not a real one) was first decorated with silver and gold ornaments when we first bought it back in 1999. The silver balls slowly were replaced with red ones which I prefer because it gives more life to the tree. I still have a lot to learn decorating a tree, maybe next year it?ll be better. (other official entries here and here)

8th---thess

ReynzAs you can see, my lover(!!!) and I have such a tres tres elegante christmas tree! Occasionally, we play hide and seek here. Of course, it was such a privilege for moi to have a picture taken beside this christmas tree because this was solely my lover?s work and idea(!).CHARRINGGG!! Hahahaha!!! This was over at Ambo?s house, ladies and gentlemen! (ed’s note – ang sweet hahaha!)

9th---reynz

VeraWe dont have christmas tree at home because my tito is muslim and as a sign of respect to their religion we dont put any christmas decorations. And so I bought a small christmas tree for my room para naman feel na feel ko ang xmas kahit sa room ko lang but in my heart paskong-pasko na talaga. At the left side of my bed where my little altar is located, I put my little christmas tree together with the photos of my baby Kirk and Mark. My little christmas tree cost only for 1$, i bought it from a dollar store last Dec 01 when I was buying christmas stuffs/gifts

DomMY blogosphere sister Vera who was tagged by Rhapsody wants to see my Christmas Tree in the monastery thats why she tagged me to show it but I am just so sorry that I cannot give her the updated one for this year since here in the monastery, as part of our Customary Monastic Practice, we only set up our Christmas tree on the evening of December 24th! …. So, what you are seeing now is an image of our 2006 Christmas tree..

12---Dom-a

Mommy GirlieThat is our Christmas Tree. We?ve actually put up that same old tree for 4 consecutive years already, and same goes with the ornaments. I have thought of getting another tree, maybe a little slimmer than that but more ?bushy? as I hate to see spaces. I think they can do better than that and can make a perfect looking tree since it?s fake. Hopefully by next year, I can earn more moolah doing sponsored posts so I can buy the tree that I really want plus more ornaments, maybe for a silver and blue theme this time. Care to share a picture of your tree? (so I can get ideas on how to dress it up for next year, lol)

14---girlie

Sardonic Nellnaku naman, our tree is just like any other one. besides, nadala lang yan sa mga ornaments and other trinkets. if i?m not mistaken, i think our tree?s about 12 feet. glad i have given you some inspiration for the next year, hehehe

15---sardonicnell

TulipfleursWell, I?ve always been big on Christmas trees, although this year I was reluctant to put one up because of AC?s 8-month old cockapoo. I?m glad we chose to put one up. For the past 3 years I?ve been decorating with silver accents, but this year I decided to go with gold accents. Also, for the past years, we?ve been going to the Christmas tree farms where the hubs chops down the one we want (family tradition). This year we broke the tradition and bought from our neighborhood tree lot. I started ?collecting? ornaments back in 1984 and when the kiddies were born, the tree always had a ?children?s theme? . . . wooden toy soldiers, Walt Disney characters, etc . . . but as the kiddies got older, I changed to theme to a more ?sophisticated? one. Oh . . and each year I buy JP and AC an ornament . . . something for them to remember and a keepsake when they?re on their own. So there, that?s my little story.

16---tulipfleurs

17-buraot

Mommy BengWhat you see above is our minimalistic Tannenbaum. The kids helped me decorate the tree with ribbons and colored glass ornaments . Traditionally, the tree is put up on December 24. Napaaga lang ngayon dahil sa kay Mang Ambo who tagged me this Christmas Tree Blog Parade meme.

19---beng-hafner

LembackI?ve had this little Christmas Tree of mine for three years now. I like it because it?s easy to put up and easy to keep. It was packed with lights and decorations when I bought it, so it was a real find.

20---lemback

ChehOur Family Christmas tree is done by me.As silly mom as I am, I put whatever things I could think of.Yeaah I know, poor poor tree indeed.hehe I even stole few of my kiddies stuffed toys to hang.haha The style is called ?whatever, whatever? it is definitely NOT minimalist.lol Didn?t we say Christmas is for kids ? this is why, I make sure Christmas deco & tree are inspired & made for them.

21---che

LovelleHubby and I bought this Christmas tree last October 2006. This is 2 meters tall, isn’t quiet big?I love this Christmas tree because, it’s really look like real one, but thats only a plastic. Hubby and I we decided to bought this last year because if we buy every year a real Christmas tree that so quiet expensive, so we decided to buy, for lasting to use. I decorated 3 colors ball, the silver, gold and red, with the small snowman with glitters and the other different stuffed for Christmas tree and with the candle light and with the different blinking small lights so that my living room look lively during this Christmas Season. Its look nice when you can see in real.

22---lovelle

ZenaidaI have to say this – I’m glad I didn’t put up and decorate our tree. But really, it served lazy and not artistic me everyone well that I didn’t do the decorating. At least, everyone is spared from my folly. Trust me, I just have the ability to make a Christmas tree that looks like it’s lifted from your nightmare. My sister did all the hardwork and I, having no artistic bone in me, actually didn’t do anything -well, except one. Okay, make that two. First was to look hands akimbo, nod and say that’s beautiful – bossy me. Second, you just have to see down below – just promise not to laugh and pretend not to be appalled. But there was a time – so long ago, long before blogging came to being- that I was in charge of the tree. It’s horrible, my work and I’m glad there’s no photo to show how not artistic I am. On the second thought, maybe there’s one in our baul. No, no digging. (original permalink of entry here)

(hahaha. joke. :P ) theme. wala namang specific na theme ung Christmas tree namin dahil kung ano ung palamuting binili namin last year, un pa rin ung gamit namin ngayon. ung tree topper lang ata ang napalitan dahil angel un last year eh. ^_^

24---karmi

Liz CochicoMy blogosphere brother Dom who was tagged by Vera wants to see my Christmas Tree. For the past three years we have not put up a Christmas Tree. Instead, we decorated the house with garlands and a nativity set.

25---lizornament

Health freak MommyThis is our Christmas tree. Hubby bought it last year and it was party because of this Christmas tree that hubby’s new MPV got stolen. Long story! Anyway, daddy, Alycia and Sherilyn helped to decorate this Christmas tree. Sherilyn, the one with the itchiest fingers has already broken more than 3 baubles when she threw them on the floor as if it was a bouncing ball! She has also chipped part of the star for the Christmas tree and daddy had recently bought a new star to replace the broken star.

26---health-freak-mommy

FrancineHubby just bought our Christmas tree last Saturday afternoon while we?re having a visitor here at home. It was a little bit a catastrophe because we didn?t have anything to eat because our fridge was empty. We couldn?t leave our visitor alone here at home also except that one of us must stay with our friend while the other would do the grocery. Hubby did it and bought the Christmas tree. It was a rush so we put up our tree that fast when he arrived and he decorated it instantly. Our Christmas tree isn?t that perfect yet but I am going to go out later to buy more decorations. The lights are very simple although hubby and I are both disappointed with it. We?re hoping to have some improvements on our Christmas tree in the next days.

27---Francine

DiwaNow, here is my bogaccious Xmas Tree! *Charing* In the heart of Center City along JFK Boulevard! (ed’s note – hahaha gigantic! Mayaman! lol)

28---diwa

ChuvaHere?s my Christmas Tree sa living room ko.

29---chuva

ScartyWhat?s with the title? Yup, it feels that the Christmas tree in our house has no meaning for me. It just here for decoration only. It has no family meaning or whatsoever. You know why? because we did not decorate it personally, we don?t own it. But I do like it, the colors and etc. My daughter likes the Christmas tree very much  This Christmas Tree has an ordinary ornaments or commonly used ornaments that we can usually buy at the store. It has little accessories. It was bought and decorated by our roommates, it is not actually from us. So yeah, maybe next year we can have our own Christmas tree.

30---scarty

MonicaActually, I was telling my mom not put a Christmas Tree anymore. My mind was telling me that our ?post? will serve as a Christmas Tree this year 2007, that?s a unique idea! So, my mom and I went to the mall and bought some decors. Immediately the next morning, we started decorating (my mom, the maid and me). It?s just a simple Christmas ?poste? Tree and it?s really unique. Just click the photo to enlarge!

31---monica

ClaireIt?s a real tree cut from our backyard. We just set it up now because it doesn?t last for a real long time. Yeah, decorated by me and my brother. Nothing special about it. For me, it?s a symbol for Christmas but it?s more likely a tradition. But it?s fun decorating it with love.

32.-Claire

SandyOur Christmas tree is a white vinyl pine that bore little clear lights rather than little brown cones. We decorated it with ornaments that our nine-year-old daughter has made or that we have received as gifts over the years. We like white because the ornaments stand out. My daughter says it looks like it snowed in the living room. Santa used to decorate our tree on Christmas Eve, but my daughter thought it would be more polite if we helped him out. So that’s what we do.

33---sandy

Munchkin MommyWe totally have our own Christmas tree parade going on in our home. Hee hee hee! We have not one, not two, not three, but 6, yes SIX, Christmas trees! :D I?ve already posted a photo of two of our tree before. The first was the little one, about two feet tall?.we have 4 others of that tree now. And then, the ?mother tree?, which is 6.5 feet tall. Here are the pics? Our tree before there were presents underneath it. Our tree now?with real presents underneath. :D A lot of these, my Mom will be bringing home with her to the Philippines. ;) Then there?s a small tree in our dining room. and another one in front of the fire place?and three more by the stairs. :D I can?t get enough of ?em! If I didn?t restrain myself, we?d have another one..or two..or three in front of our house! :D

JamsOur tree is a Nordland fir. It is about as wide as it is high – perhaps a poor choice in a narrow house! we like it though.

35---jams

KittyOur tree is very small, It’s enough for us to gaze at. We really opted for a smaller tree instead of buying a huge one. It’s artificial of course, I really wanted to have a real fresh smelling fresh cut christmas tree so the aroma would fill the room. but this would be ok. usually after thanksgiving day it’s a tradition now for us to decorate the tree, and my son had a great time helping me put the ornaments up especially the candy canes and last the christmas star. each year I like to add at least one ornament to the tree to tell it’s story. It may be small but it’s a very special tree to us, it tells us how our life is as simple as this tree but full of happiness it can bring. that’s all I can say about it. Our small christmas tree can be simple but a lot of cheerfulness thoughts it can bring especially with kids like my son who is so fond of putting up the tree.

36---kitty

RoselleThis is our little Christmas tree. My family had it for 10 years.

37---roselle

RachelleWe bought this Christmas tree a few years ago. My husband and I wanted a big tree. When we brought it home we realized it was too big (wide) for our living room. We have to “relocate” one of our over sized chairs every Christmas season to give room to our Christmas tree. It’s a small thing to do each year so we don’t mind. We love our Christmas tree because it strengthens the Christmas spirit at home. This photo below was taken on Christmas Eve. Yohan was ready to open his gifts.

38---rachell

LeahChristmas is over but the Christmas tree parade is not. I was tagged by Tina to join this parade. My tree is still up so I am still posting this. I have a fresh Balsam Fir Tree we got from Home Depot the first weekend in December. We have decorated it and here?s how it looks like. You can see some of the ornaments hung on the tree over here

39-leah

BingI was busy everyday doing this and that that I forgot all about our Christmas tree. My daughter and I set up the tree almost a month now but I only had the chance to look at it closely and said to myself, ” Oh no! I forgot all about you!”. I forgot to take a picture of it. The first year in our new house I promised the kids that we’ll set up the tree together and the years to come and we’ll take a picture of it every year. Our Christmas the past two years were celebrated in Canada so we didn’t put up our tree then. This year, we’ll spend Christmas here in our country so I really don’t have a reason not to have a picture of our Christmas tree this year. And of course our Nativity. I put up our Nativity on our coffee table in our living room just in front of our Christmas tree so that the angel at the top of the tree is somewhat looking down at Jesus. Tina I love the smell of the house when we bring in the fresh Christmas tree (a Fraser fir or also known as Balsam tree), To me it?s part of the whole feel of Christmas smell. The tree is beautiful by itself that?s why when we decorate it we only use ornaments that would show off it?s natural essence. I was really impressed when I was still dating my hubby, he invited me to his apartment and he had a live Christmas tree. So it?s been our family tradition to pick out a fresh tree every year. This year upon my daughter?s insistence, we got the tree a week early. It really makes such a big difference when you have a child in the house during Christmas, their enthusiasm for the season is infectious. I believe that Christmas is all about optimism towards life and that no matter how bad things look there is still hope.

42---tina

MegaMomI did have fun hopping through the various blogs featuring Christmas trees, mostly Pinoys? trees, from all over the world. At least it was fun while it lasted. I bought it in Divisoria four years ago, when we first came back from overseas. It is plastic. It is inexpensive. (I refuse to say ?cheap?!). The ornaments though are on the high end side. Some are Gorham crystal, some are collectible silver, some are keepsake ornaments. My favorite is the White House Christmas tree ornament which we bought in D.C. the year the kids were born. As you can imagine, with increased mobility of the kids, these ornaments are now in the highest part of the tree. I bought faux glace balls (Divisoria grade shiny plastic balls) that the kids could put up and take down as they please. These dominate the lower part of the tree. I also bought LED Christmas lights to adorn the tree, threw away the Divisoria lights following numerous fires attributed to these substandard lights. The angel on top is the longest living ornament we have. It was a Christmas gift the year we got married.

43---megamom

From The AuthorI don’t know the style of our tree. All I know is that My mom and my niece put a lot of flowers in our tree interspersed with twinkle lights that my Dad fixed. My mom’s theme this year is red. I don’t know about next year, but I’m so sure it’s not going to be pink for we will protest about it haha.

Oo nga brods. sabi nga nila wla daw jan ready made trees tulad dito na pwede itabi sa cabinet.

Bro, it’s because my mentor in blogging is really superb kaya ako natuto. magaling kasi yung mentor ko eh. nabanggit ko ata sayo na idol ko sya and rooting for him on this year’s Phil Blog Awards. Baka kilala mo yun. sa kanya ako palagi nagtatanong eh, JPH ang initials hehe…

I wish you all the best in 2008 jaypee. and I am hoping that you will bag the prize this time. You deserve it, overdue na brother.

Meron din naman mga artificial, ready-made Christmas tress dito pero I think mas madami ang gumagamit ng tunay na tree.

Sino ba yon mentor mo? Hehe

Thank you very much! About the awards thing, we’ll see. It’s nice to be a part of it and winning it would be something but I don’t want to expect too much. If God’s will, it will come. But thanks for the kind words and the support. I really appreciate it.

Btw, how’s it going with your plans of coming over here? Did you take the NCLEX exams already?

Who said Christmas is just for kids hehe.

madame you are all in my prayers kahit makasalanan ako. di lang ngayong january, kungdi throughout the year ang prayers ko. sabi kasi nila mas effective daw ang dasal ng makasalanan hehe.

you are automatically tagged next year. The more trees the merrier.

    Have a wonderful 2008 po Mommy M.

Tol, count me in as one of your staunchest ally and supporter sa blog awards. I am 100% supporting you. Papalahin natin ang mga ka-WPP natin haha. You really deserve it. As early as October ata last year nang bra-brainwash na ako na supportahan ka if ever manominate ka eh. LOL. Dont worry, this is not a press realease, I will really support you on this one. Not just because you are my buddy here, but also because I really believe that you are such a great blogger. napakadami ko natutunan sayo. Hoping really on my part that this could be your year.

I took the exam last Dec. 26 and still waiting for the result.
