I updated my blog today with the “supposed” and “alleged” greatest WordPress version ever, the 2.2. After a month of procrastinating, I finally made a move, triggered only by the threat that some spammers are causing me. Actually, three or four days ago, I had a glitch in my Akismet spam page. I cannot seem to moderate my spam comments because it was blocked by an unknown entity from the “gagosphere”. The blank page, which I feared and hated so much, is back. But this time it’s not the number 54 but a number 37 instead. Avoiding any presumptions that these numbers might actually be a magic combination for the Lottery, I immediately packed some of my stuff from my server: database, files and yes the lengthy WordPress directory that took me at least an hour before the full download completed.

I’m quite satisfied with the upgrade as of this moment except for three minor problems, two of which I have solved manually. Maybe most of you guys who upgraded to WP 2.2 have experienced some of these similar problems that Iâ??m talking about? Well I found a solution to some of it, thanks to the very generous people who shared the info.

1. The inline preview of the Editor vanished, as in nawala parang bula (disappeared like a bubble). WP people apparently removed the inline preview page in the editor of WP 2.2 and replaced it with a â??View the siteâ?? instead on the upper right corner of the editor. Like most of those who were baffled by this move of WordPress, I too began thinking why the heck did they remove it. Thereâ??s gotta be a better reason. But looking for a reason was futile, looking for an answer was the most necessary instead. So here is the solution in order to retrieve the preview and avoid unnecessary clicks and pop ups of new windows just to have a glimpse of your work.

2. The Flickr photo tab on the editor was also missing even though the Photo Book plug-in is installed. Most of bloggers I know, now use this plug-in so that their server will not be that clogged with files. If your flickr tab is missing from the editor page, here is the solution:

3. A blank page with a number 37 on the left corner of the screen appears instead of my Akismet spam page. Now this is what I hate aside from some plugins breaking my blog. This has been irritating since only a number 37 appears on the page. When you view the page source, there is nothing. I have searched the net for answer with this kind of hassle but to no avail. However, this morning as I opened my akismet spam page, hoping that the mysterious number 37 would not be there anymore, I was surprised to behold that it is back in action. It appeared and disappeared just like that. I do not know if it is connected with the WP installation, but I am glad it is gone.

I would like to think that another hacker was trying to disrupt my Akismet, but Iâ??ll spare my suspicion for now. Aside from my back up (which I will update every day), I have installed another site on my server similar to this if worse comes to worst. Better be prepared and over-reacting than to lose everything out of mediocrity. For those darn hackers and spammers, my only word for you is this:
