Remembering the 9/11 WTC Terrorist Attack

436

At around 8:50 pm (Manila time) on September 12, 2001, I arrived home from school and saw my family watching CNN. Everyone at home were so quiet as if they were hypnotized by the scenes on Television showing the North Tower of the World Trade Center burning in flames. At that time no one still knew what had happened. All they (CNN) knew was that a giant aircraft hit building. So I hurried towards my room, changed my clothes and was glued on the TV for hours. I saw on TV how the second plane crashed on the South Tower and a third in the pentagon. At that time the WTC was still burning and what I can’t forget is the live footage from CNN wherein hundreds of people where jumping from the building because of intolerance to the 3000 degrees heat generated by the jet fuel. I was stupefied. I didn’t know what to say. I don’t know how to react. I never realize that such things could happen in real life situations. For all i know back then was that those scenes were only seen on Hollywood disaster movies.

After the 2nd plane crashed on the south tower, my cellphone began to receive numerous messages particularly from my mentors and brothers in the seminary, from friends and relatives here and abroad who were so angry with what happened. At that time, there was already a confirmation that it was indeed a terrorist attack. I began to respond and asked them why is this happening?. I remember my priest friend lamented on my cell phone the very words which still rings to my ears to this day “may their (terrorist) kind be expelled to the bowels of hell and that may God render them infertile so that their seed would not multiply”. It was understandable that many Filipinos that day was angry not because America is one of the Philippine’s strongest ally, but because it is so horrifying to even imagine such crimes be perpetuated against innocent civilians.

We remember today the innocent people who died at the WTC and at the four hijacked planes. Below are the scenes that we could choose not to remember, but we are obliged not to forget, in behalf of thousands who were affected, died and injured on that faithful day of September 11, 2001.

    Jules..

You are probably right. I think some of the ones who were behind 911 are still walking around in the USA today.

This is one of the most tragic events in the whole history of America and to the whole world. Things will never be the same for them co’z a lot of lives were taken. Let’s just hope that that they will find inner peace after especially for those who lost their love ones!

People will always remember 9/11 but I wish more good will come out of it instead of pain. When we were in NYC last year we considered going to Ground Zero, but thought it wouldn’t be such a great idea because when I went to the Bali blast site in 2001, I felt the spirits and their agony. I didn’t want the same thing to happen to me in New York.

Many thanks for your visit to A Pinay in England and leaving your comment. Have a fab Saturday and see you back there again!
