The Mignnones

Once in your life you’ll meet some very special people that will totally change you as a person. In High School I was so fortunate to meet this bunch of all-girl clique known as the Mignnones who were the female counterparts of our HS Male Barkada, the Visionaries. I don’t know what they fed me during HS but eversince I became their unofficial guardian-slash bodyguard whenever I’m with them, I always feel I have to protect 10 first daughters all at the same time. I just spare the details as to not trigger the past from being brought up to the present, after all I had a one heck of a time protecting them from various predators… (from maniacs, to hecklers to prospective suitors and admirers) which sometimes really got me into a lot of trouble with some familiar people (relationship-wise with friends). But hey its all worth it really. I have no sisters that are younger than me, just a couple of feisty siblings haha. So since then I have taken them into my arms as my own sisters. Starting today I’m creating a special niche (category) in my bog dedicated to them and for them. Kasi mga nagrereklamo daw na di ko man lang pinopost mga pictures nila sa blog ko haha.
2 weeks ago, they decided to finally post the pics of the updates of their Barkada lives on my blog, after all, what is there to hide? Eh wala naman nagbago sa mga hitsura, size lang haha. So I was tasked to publish them and Shane is the one to write every post. So don’t get surprised if the blogger for this series goes by the name of Shane. Actually she is one of the country’s formidable novelist (Naks)… Post ko minsan kung ano mga title ng books nya at bilhin nyo sa National Bookstore haha. But before I formally launch this category, let me just tell you a bit of what happened after HS.
After the second semester of 1996, I lost contact with some of them. I never heard from most of them again except for some who wrote me letters when i was in the seminary. Some of them got married and had a family of their own. Some even baptized their children having me as their Godfather without me even attending the event (we were not allowed as seminarians to attend events outside the seminary). So when I went out of the seminary its like going back to zero once again, establishing rapport, updating lives and stuff. But as years pass by, they gradually resurfaced one by one and have established connection with me again. I really thought everything changed but I realized the warmth of these girls to their “unofficial kuya” was there and never changed a bit. Surprisingly whenever I meet them or talked to them for the first time after so many years, it is as if we just met yesterday. That is why these girsl are so special to me that even in their private happy family lives, they still have a space for me in their hearts. Thats why in exchange, I’m giving a precious space of my blog to them, not just a tribute to their friendship but as a gift from me for the support, understanding and care for me through all these years.
And also, last time that I posted my “TWO HUNDREDTH” post about my friends in HS, I got a mix reaction from these girls haha. Bakit daw ba parang may “peborit” ako dun sa post na yun at ang mga picture nila ay mabibilang laang sa daliri. Most of my friends from other circles aside from that in HS knew me that I have no favorites and does not play preferences when it comes to friendship. I just happen to have a reason why I did this and that, but its purely objective. Several of you from my college and seminary days can attest to that fact. Alam ko nagbibiro lang sila at inaalaska lang ako whenever I have the chance to meet them (actually ayaw ko na nga sumama minsan kasi napapahamak ako hahahaha pero ano magagawa ko kung dinadaanan ako?), yet alam nyo naman ako masunurin at mapagbigay kaya to formally launch this Mignnone Category on my blog, here is my answer to their qualms about the Two Hundredth post that I wrote and published. I very well know that they will kill me after seeing the pictures below, but hey, this is the real me… mapagbiro at alaskador. Boring pag naging seryoso si Armibus. It wouldn’t be OTWOMD without any tinge of surprise diba?
Para sa mga munti kong anghel sa Mignnones, here is your request. Your wish is granted… Magsawa kayo sa pictures nyo dito sa blog ko hahaha (Joke lang). It is only fitting that the very first post of this Mignnone series should be a flashback of what they really looked like in HS, kesehodang ayaw nyo ipapost, eh yan naman talaga hitsura nyo noon hahaha wala naman tayo magagawa mga kapatid, hindi kaya iedit yan sa photoshop haha. Looking back at the years that I spent with these girls just makes me wonder if it will last forever, for friends do come and go… and thats the reality. Contrary to others definition of friendship, mine is different…
Friendship transcends gender and preference, it transcends even time and association, for even if a thousand years have passed, then one day you meet along the way, the warmth and sincerity is still there. For friendship is not gauged on how often you see each other or talk to each other on a regular basis because its just there, at the very corner of your heart. Like Gold which is tested by fire, so is Friendship is tested by time regardless of the frequency of gathering and meeting up. For everyone of us has already our own set of priorities to accomplish. Friends are not the priority but wonderful gift from God, an icing on top of the already delicious cake. No one will ever understand the true meaning of friendship if one never ever experienced it in the first place.

army ang sama mo talaga but very funny. i particularly like ur “diana ross and wig” comment kay anto, that cracked me up. oh… how i miss you guys so much…. hope we can all get together soon. we all looked so innocent and fresh back then…. wonder how we all look now?
