Toyota Trivia

189

Did you know that the Toyota was originally named “Toyoda”? It was named after the owner of the company Kiichiro Toyoda who at that time, his father had already established a company in Japan. Toyoda wanted to manufacture a car hence he built the first Type A engine which later fitted into a new and first ever Toyoda car: the Toyoda AA. Soon Kiichiro established his own company as a spin-off of his father?s own. Toyoda in Japanese (Nipponese) literally means ?fertile rice paddies? but was changed into ?Toyota? because of a brother in law who was not born with the surname and said it would somehow distance the company to any association with old fashioned farming, hence in 1937 the TOYOTA Motors was born.

Currently, Toyota is a multinational company whose headquarters is in Aichi in Nagoya Japan. They also own and operate the luxurious Lexus and Scion brands and has a majority of shares in the Daihatsu motors, Hino motors and 8.7% of Fuji Heavy Industries, which manufactures Subaru vehicles. They also acquired 5.9% of Isuzu Motors Ltd. on November 7, 2006 and will be introducing Isuzu diesel technology into their products. One of the well know model of Toyota Cars is the Toyota Camry which was first released in 1980 and has been the car of executives and professionals in the business world. Most of the Toyota Camry in the US, particularly in Virginia are sold in Toyota Camry Virginia which has the largest inventory of Toyota Camry models in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Falls Church, Springfield and Tyson?s Corner in Virginia
