420

As if tornadoes are not enough, Earthquakes suddenly hit the Luzon area particularly the Bicol and Central Luzon area in 3 consecutive attacks. The first quake hit last Saturday, August 30 at around 8:05 pm at a distance of 36 Km from Sorsogon City with a magnitude of 5.1 in the Richter scale. Legaspi City felt the quake at magnitutude 5 while nearby Sorsogon and Cataduanes recorded a magnitude 4 on the area during the quake. After 12 hours another earthquake hit the region but this time with an intensity 5 magnitude being felt at the northeast of Sorsogon last Sunday, August 31 at 8:30 in the morning. PHIVOLCS said that the quake was tectonic in nature meaning it was caused by the movement of landmass beneath the ground and has no reported damages in the area. 4 hours later at twelve noon, another earthquake was felt at the Nueva Ecija area with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale being felt as far as Baguio City with an intensity 2 magnitude. These series of earthquakes are normal in the region where the Pacific ring of fire lies. Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, California and the South Americas belong to this ring that is often struck by Volcanic eruptions and tectonic earthquakes.
