GMA 7’s Survivor Philippines location revealed!

417

GMA 7 recently announced that Survivor Philippines will not be aired this August but will be premiered on September this year. There were no clear reasons why all of a sudden the Kapuso network backtracked its plan of airing the show. But critics of Pinoy Idol claimed that GMA 7 might have been electrocuted with the flop of the recently concluded Pinoy Idol. I think this is a wise decision since Pinoy Idol did not really made an indelible mark on the Pinoy viewer’s memory, causing it to plummet in the fame game against its rival reality show on the other station. Many times that fans all over have lamented the ugly side of Pinoy Idol but the network did not listen. So maybe the Public Affairs team of Survivor Philippines does not want it to happen to them after all, their department is considered as one of the best media outfits in Asia, producing award-winning documentaries for years. Pinoy Idol was handled by the entertainment department while Survivor Philippines was assigned to the Public Affairs team in the tradition of the number 1 reality show in the country, Extra Challenge.

While viewers are waiting for the show to air, rumors have already circulated on the identity of the 16 castaways for the Survivor Philippines Franchise. They are Christian Hager (Davao), Terry Reid (SM North Edsa), Michelle Halili (Baguio), The Lone Rider (SM North Edsa), Mustafa (Baguio), Marco/Mark (SM North Edsa); a Half Greek - Half Pinoy, A.S. (a triathlete from Davao), Jake C.(Baguio), Ally B.(Dagupan), John M.(call center dude), a Muslim guy (from Davao), Shawn Dicka (Model), and a certain Marvin Sy from Ateneo.

According to some sources, the show will be aired for 30 minutes daily from Monday to Thursday and will have a full hour air time on Fridays. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays are Reward, Immunity and Tribal Council episodes; while Tuesday and Thursdays will focus on the developments of the show.

Meanwhile, host Paolo Bediones disclosed that he is not allowed to talk with the contestants to avoid familiarity and biases. He also noted that the show is following the rules of the Surviivor Franchise by the book which is a good thing since we have already seen the devastation that happened in Pinoy Idol when they changed some of the important traditions and rules of the show.

The most exciting part is that the location of the show has also been leaked in the internet as somewhere in Thailand called the Ko Tarutao Island. The Environmental Department of Thailand has already confirmed the taping of the show after concerns were raised in Thailand due to a possible contamination of exploitation of the Island by the staff and contestants. But authorities have already dismissed the idea saying it will do more good than harm since it will boost tourism on the said Island. Below are some info and pics of the Ko Tarutao Island in Thailand to give you a preview on what to expect on the show’s location.

Tarutao National Marine Park (Thai: ???????????????????????????? ) consists of 51 islands located in the Andaman Sea, off the coast of Satun Province of Southern Thailand. The Tarutao National Marine Park consists of two island groups: Tarutao (Thai: ??????????????? ) and Adang-Rawi (Thai: ?????????????-????), which are scattered from 20 to 70 kilometers distance from the southwestern most point of mainland Thailand. The park covers an area of 1,490 square kilometers (1,260 ocean, 230 island). The southern most end of the Park lies on the border with Malaysia. Tarutao became Thailand’s second marine national park on April 19, 1974. The coastal Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park had been designated in 1966.

The name Tarutao is a Thai corruption of its original Malay name, Pulau Tertua (the island of old).

The park was established in 1974. In 1982, it was listed as one of the original ASEAN Heritage Parks. It was also submitted to UNESCO for inclusion to the World Heritage in 1990, but its listing was deferred in the fifteenth session of the World Heritage Committee in 1991. The UNESCO requested a stronger management of the area.

The island had been used in the late 1930s as a penal colony for Thai political prisoners. During World War II, when support from the mainland was cut off, the guards and prisoners banded together and formed raiding parties on ships sailing through the waters near the island. After the pirates of Tarutao were eradicated by British forces at the end of the war, fishermen and farmers took up residence on the island.

Ko Tarutao was the setting for Survivor: Thailand, the 2002 season for the reality television series, Survivor.

i was a SURVIVOR addict back in the States. but then there came a point that the show simply bored me because the interaction were too scripted and nasty to be credible. but, having our own and in one of our islands, the excitement is back.
