Legend says that Barcelona was built in honor of Hercules, 400 years before Rome was built. Today it is the capital of España and is considered as the most populous city of Catalonia and second largest in Spain. Barcelona is the center urban region of the Catalans which is located along the Mediterranean Sea between the two rivers of Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded on the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge. It is one of Spain and Europe?s most busiest Mediterranean ports and International Airport. History says that Barcelona has been the Capital of the Noble Bloods, Counts and the Crowning Glory of Aragon. Besieged so many times, Barcelona is one of the most important cultural center of Spain and a major tourist destination for that matter.
As the Capital of Catalonia, Barcelona houses important government buildings across Spain including the Generalitat de Catalunya, parliament, and the Supreme Court of Catalonia. Many tourist destinations are also found in Barcelona such as Font Màgica (Magic Fountain) for the 1888 world expo, Arc de Triomf, Torre de Collserola, and the Placa del Tibidabo. Barcelona also boast their 7 beaches, among them are the Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta beaches, which are the largest, oldest and most frequented beaches by locals and tourists. Barcelona Hotels are affordable and can be found near the city proper. Hotels can also be booked online if the tourist doesn?t want to make a last minute hassle in Barcelona itself. Visiting Barcelona is quite an Adventure especially if you are gearing on the 2011 world youth day which would take place in Madrid, Spain.
