All systems go: Fantastic images of Pope Benny and WYD lights up the Sydney Harbour - Photos inside

354

2 hours before the official opening of the World Youth Day in Sydney, the City prepares for the world’s largest Youth Gathering. While last night (Sydney is two hours ahead of time in Manila) IMAGES of the Pope and the Australian outback are being projected on Sydney’s famous Harbour Bridge in celebration of World Youth Day (WYD). The light show, made up of 20 images beamed onto the bridge’s southern pylon, was switched on at dusk today by New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma. The images include words welcoming Catholic pilgrims to Sydney, depictions of Pope Benedict XVI waving, and a kangaroo on a sun-drenched white beach. The light show will play every night from 5.15pm (AEST) until midnight throughout the week-long Catholic event. “We are continuing Sydney’s great tradition of incorporating the Harbour Bridge into our community’s celebrations,” Mr Iemma said. “Whether it is New Year’s Eve, the Olympic Games or another significant event, the bridge is a focal point for our festivities. “World Youth Day is the second biggest event in the world this year, and the Harbour Bridge is a Sydney icon, so it’s important it is part of this week’s historic celebrations.” (DT)

Mr Iemma said meeting the Pope on his arrival had been a “humbling experience” that would live with him for the rest of his life. He said WYD events went well on the first day after the Pope’s arrival and hoped that would continue. Mr Iemma was joined by government WYD spokeswoman Kristina Keneally and WYD coordinator Bishop Anthony Fisher at the Opera House - the best vantage point for the show - when he flicked the switch this evening. Ms Keneally said an event on the scale of WYD would reinforce Sydney’s reputation as a leading destination for international events. “World Youth Day will deliver tremendous social and economic benefits for NSW, many to be felt long after the Pope has returned to Rome,” she said.

    amazing!

Our eldest son, John Benedict is named after his grandpa [John] and Pope Benedict XVI.

When John Paul the Great passed away in 2005, my husband said that we should name our unborn son after the next pope.

John Benedict, we call him Uno, is turning 3 this October. When he is old enough, I’ll tell him that he is named after a great servant of God.

Hay.. wish ko lang mag-visit din sya dito sa ‘tin.

Juless last blog post..Colossal challenge that will never end?

wow that was a great history for a name. Dapat siguro ganayan magpangalana ang mga magulang para naman di kumakamot ulo ng mga naka nila pag tinanong sila kung bakit yun binigay na pangalan. Ako simple lang ang name ko eh, dayunyor ako kinuha sa name ng father ko. pero when I researched my real name, the meaning of it, it has something to do with the mythology of the roman empire.. kaya ayun ang header ko ay rome hehe.

You know If ever I will have a kid someday, I will definitely name them after great men and women.

and yes, your son will definitely be a great man someday.

Sana nga dito next wyd ano? haha ng mawala naman corruption dito sa atin.
