The Long-awaited Cremation of Pinoy idol

As far as I am concerned, I do not really want to sound negative on my posts regarding Pinoy Idol. Like I said on my previous posts, I am a huge fan of GMA shows most especially their public affairs program. But what can a viewer like me do, who is expecting a lot from this show since they have the guts to steal the franchise from ABC 5, yet they didn’t have the glory to even top the former version? Will I just blog about the good and ignore the bad? What if I don’t see any good at all, will I still convince my readers otherwise and make a fool of myself? To hell with honesty if that is the case. But then again, as always, I give satirical approach to my every post about the Pinoy Idol show simply because I want it, like millions of Idol franchise fans, to improve for the better. Sometimes I am really tired of saying the same old things over and over again. But I think as far as I am concerned, and considering that the show have gone this far without any clear, impressive and concrete improvement, the death of Pinoy Idol should now be concluded. It’s time to cremate the mockery of the Idol franchise point by point.
Let us do a thorough review of the ephemeral eye sore on Philippine TV with a cross examination of a blog entry from one of the judges’ blog itself.
Looking for answers on the net about any news with regards to the staffs of Pinoy Idol’s take on the comments of viewers, I landed on Jolina Magdangal’s recent entry on her blog entry titled “Debate”. Jolina solicited the views of the people concerned in the show about the viewer’s comments on Pinoy Idol like Ms. Darling De Jesus, assistant vice president for musicals and specials, Ms. Hazel Abonita, program manager, Perry Lansigan, executive producer. Paolo Luciano, associate producer, Louie Ignacio, director, Rommel Gacho, headwriter and director of Pinoy Idol Extra, Ogie Alcasid, judge, Wyngard Tracy, judge, Raymond Gutierrez, host, Donna Cuna Pita, Mervin Lazaro, Charmaine Palermo, Kat Cruz, Anne Bella (stylists for the contestants).
It’s quite commendable for Jolina to even make an effort in gathering all their messages for the viewers to see. But what is important here is the concrete proof and not just words from people who doesn’t even exist in the memory of the viewers. The viewers want to see the show improve and progress and not just a bunch of false-re-assurances coming from the staff themselves. It’s like saying “o sige matigil lang kayo, eto ang pruweba na nagbabasa sila ng comment nyo”. Viewers doesn’t care if they read the comments or not, what they do care is that they (staff) should give the show justice that it properly deserves. After all, it is the viewers who has the final say if the show is a hit or just suck big time.
I guess at this point in time, Pinoy Idol cannot be resuscitated for it has died before it even existed. Since episode 1, viewers already lamented their disappointment with the show. It’s just so sad to hear that they use freemantle as a shield for their incompetence. If you will read some of the replies of the show’s staff, they are actually saying that they have no control over the show because it is entirely managed by fremantle.
Given the fact that it is indeed that the show is run by marxist and dictators from fremantle, but isn’t it also a fact that they all have the power to do changes if the show sucks? I won’t believe that even freemantle would hindery improvement on the show that would benefit it and its ratings. If ABC 5 has pulled it off and placed Philippine idol on the Pedestal, then I think GMA, reputed as one of the Nation’s best network, can also do the same, or even top what its predecessor did. But sadly, the network just cajoled some of the viewers by their empty promises and letting the show sank further to its already pus-filled grave. If ever the show is being watched, it’s not because it’s popular, but because it’s hideous and atrocious.
I feel sorry for the talented (hmmmmmm) contestants because they have to endure such mediocre production. Some of them deserve better.

Here’s actually the rub:
The stage was recycled from the Top 24 elimination. It’s so dumb to use set designs that have already been used and seen by the viewers. Is it really that bad to at least pay and invest for a very worthy stage? Watching the show last Saturday really made me laugh—literally. GMA7 have been feeding the viewers of this hoax expectation that the show will be great…. and now what? yan ba ang stage LOL! You can see the clutter and some wires behind the stage for crying out loud. The lights are too bright that it rendered the whole show like an apparition of ghosts or something. And the smoke really made the whole stage a reminiscent of blair witch project.
The Judges table are hauled from the studio performance in the filmex studio. And again the monitor on the Judges table? It was not even properly fitted as an emboss on the table, but was just attached to an iron frame to tilt it. What a mess. They can’t even create a decent table for the unworthy judges. Talking about monitors, the screen on the stage is not shown as a whole. The square screen is showing different perspective against the two remnant screen on the sides. This show is nuts– figuratively and literally! What a disaster.
As the camera focuses on the Judges, you can very well see on the background some security guards, people going in and out of the studio and some bystanders at the back. Not a very good sight to behold. It’s like we are witnessing a Barangay show on the road.
The song categories are not every bit as challenging as ever. We hear songs sang over and over again. Even renditions done by former AI are also sung repeatedly. I also noticed that the contestants were singing songs that are very easy for them. There’s really no challenge. Plus, no one ever dared to arrange songs at least for a change. Copycats as we may say.
The voting system is laughable. This is the first time I heard that an Idol franchise has allowed any voting tocommence even if the performers have not yet performed. Clearly, this will result into a popularity contest i tell you. And would you also believe that the votes will be counted starting at the begining of the show until 12 noon the next day.. It is very obvious that there is not enough people who are voting, that’s why they extended the time frame, even going to length of allowing to vote without seeing the complete performance of the contestants. What is there to vote in the first place? this show really suck!
And the judges: Jolens if you are reading this and my pingback gets to your blog, please at least make an intelligent comment. Your comments like “your different“, “kulang pa“, “Gusto ko pang makakita ng kakaiba“, “winner, winner, winner“… Pfffttt!!!! This is the reason why people look at showbiz personalities very low… all are beautiful but lacking in intelligence. I’m not saying you are stupid or what, I never said that, but at least dig a little dipper if you must. Not all viewers are teenagers you know. Filipino viewers deserve intelligent comments. Nothing against you, just be a judge worthy of being called one. You are placed there to show your expertise and not make generic comments that can actually be echoed by Parrots and Cuckoo birds…
And again taped? Not Live? you’ve got to be kidding me? And the red carpet entrance? what a bull! I don’t want to enrage the director, but I assure you, his marks and pee are all over the territory. At least there are no butterflies, just rainbows all over the stage. And the Pinoy Idol website? Nyahahahaha… Bloggers can do better! Peksman, Batman plus Superman! LOL
I don’t know about you guys, but if you want to waste money voting on this stupid mockery and travesty of the Idol Franchise, better vote for the worst, at least the winner will do justice to the show. Worst Idol Performer for the Worst Idol Show ever.. perfect match! We have waited for nothing. We are taken for a ride. We are made to believe that it will still improve… asan?

i happen to watch the show last saturday kasi dyan naka tune yung tv sa bus. dismayado din ako kay jolina that night as she was rating the contestants by the number of the word “winner”. kapag magaling ka, “winner!” ang mas magaling, “winner! winner!” at kapag todo ka na, “winner! winner! winner!”
mahirap talaga i franchise ang isang sikat na show. but im not buying na restricted kasi sila ng fremantle. philippine idol definitely did better.

Alam mo totoo yan, kahit basahin pa nila lahat ng comments kung wala naman silang ginagawa para maayos o ma-improve man lang ang show, eh wla ring kwenta.
At kung gagayahin ko si Jolina, all I can say about Pinoy Idol is “kulang pa…gusto ko pang makakita ng kakaiba sa show!”

The stage is too BRIGHT… pwedeng bawasan ang carnival-esque lights? The judges, nasa gitna ang mesa, nakaka-distract.
At kailangan bang sumigaw parati ang mga hosts? ABS or GMA pareho silang ganun. While watching clips from PDA, may sense ang mga judges.

Same here. I really don’t know if their budget is limited or their creativity is stifled. Rumors say that GMA7 is avoiding what had happened to abc 5… nalugi daw. But Come to think of it, being No. 1 station in the country, would they suffer the same fate as ABC? Abc suffered loss because of lack of advertisement, GMA otherwise has the full capacity to attract ads. so there is really no point in being mediocre.

its because of the surge of readers. Have you noticed that my alexa rank went high? I’m getting an average of 10 readers every pageload. Binawasan ko na nga ang pixel ng graphics including some sidebar chenes that I don’t see useful anymore but to no avail.
My site is on the verge of suspension because of my sudden increase in bandwidth usage. Di rin pala maganda pag madami masyado readers.

Masyado maliwanang ano Kuya K? Last saturday para ako nanonood ng horror film kasi puro silhouette ang nakita ko.
I can’t help disobeying your advice Kuya K in posting positive comments about PI because I’m so disappointed and at the same time trying hard to promise myself not towatch the show anymore.
Yeah I agree, it’s like they are always introducing a beauty contestant. If you will watch the hosting style of Ryan Agoncillo, he’s very cool.

anyway, dito rin naman bumabababa na ang ratings ng AI eh. tingin ko nawawalan na ng novelty yung show. yun nga lang, at least dito, maganda ang production design at talagang ginagawaan nila ng paraan para hindi masuya ang tao.

talaga namang ramdam na ramdam ko ang pagkadismaya mo …. puro all the things that u said is actually right. masyadong pilit ang show .. pilit ang host at judges ultimo stage. nakakahiya knowing na almost every season of AI may pinoy na pumapasok. what they needs are staff who are avid fan of AI para sa mga inputs.

truth to tell, ina-aattempt ko talagang upuan at panoorin ang pinoy idol pero may pagpapahalaga naman ako sa oras ko. lumilipat din ako ng channel. kaya nga, sa kabila na ako nanonood. at least doon, may visible growth ang singers. btw, Billy Crawford sucks!
