And she finally learned her lessons…

323

How much does TV ratings cost for a reporter to even risk her very own life just for a story that never really existed? Well probably Ces Drilon knows the answer by now that no story is worth dying for. In the recent months we saw the seemingly fearless Iron woman of ABS CBN made her way through unpopular defiance of journalistic protocols and even briefings from law enforcers, just to give the nation the story she and her network wanted to have exclusively. We saw her last year in the Manila Peninsula siege how she battled the police for her supposed rights as a journalist to tell the world the truth for the sake of (oops ilag sa kamatis) ratings and exclusivity. Don’t get me wrong, I took part with the nation’s lamentations when Ces and her crew were abducted. Hell I even got mad at the Abu Sayaff for being a menace to society. But there are always lessons that need to be brought up in every event that unfolds. And this one is primarily for Ces and all the journalist who defies what we all call as limits.
Not all broadcasters are cut off for a Pulitzer. Yet even that prestigious award is not worth having when people that you love suffer from your lack of judgment. Yet no one should blame Ces for we all know that she is one heck of an excellent reporter. Yet, with her experience being slapped, tied, maltreated and even fed to the mosquitoes, I think she already learned her lessons well… That a good journalist need not be sensational or exclusive to the point of even risking everything just for a story. But being able to apply the courage you once showed at the Peninsula Siege to your current situation in the hands of the abductors. That my friends is the greayest credibility that a journalist could ever have: consistency amidst pressure. Because If you’ll only be tough in controlable situations, then better not be tough at all and just follow the law… If you don’t get what I mean, I’m so sorry. Maybe I’m just confused because of Mosquito bites. Abu Sayyaf is not a terrorist because for all I know, they have a principle and ideals that’s why they are terrorizing nations’ security. Abu Sayaff I think are just bunch of kidnappers who considers money as the object of their goal, nothing more nothing less. Below are the photos after Ces Drilon, and her crew were released.

Ces Drilon is one driven journalist, but I hope she learned something from this experience. Besides, I don’t think they should go out of their way to interview those terrorists. They don’t deserve the media mileage!

Now for the tsismis: Mahigpit daw ang competition especially among female journalists at ABS, with Korina playing reyna-reynahan to the hilt! tha’t according to friends from ABS.

alam mo, natawa ako dun sa tell-all article of a certain Arlyn, a mindanao reporter and ex-collegue ni Cez. for the love of me, after reading that article (kahapon yata yun), nawala lahat ng simpatya ko kay ms. drilon. hehehe…
but then again, this might just be one of those quarrels among girls which is too heavily nuanced for men to understand.
hey, sent you an e-mail na. God bless!
