American Idol Season 7 finalists on Larry King Live: Why Stars in the Philippines doesn’t shine
By bluepanjeet on Jun 4, 2008 in Dreamers

I watched the first part of Larry King’s interview with the American Idol Finalists on CNN but forgot to watch about the second part of the show. So as usual, it’s youtube to the rescue. What’s amazing about this group is that they have been solid from the very start and have good support system in the person of their fellow contestants. As I watched the show, I can’t help but think how different the american culture is from the Pinoy Showbizlandia. In the US, Showbiz personalities are epitome of glamor, talent and success. But here in the Philippines, showbiz celebrities are considered cheap, attention deficit monsters and the most insincere creatures of the planet. The problem is rooted on the system that is why Pinoy showbiz has been considered as a poor imitation of hollywood. There in the US, stars are respected no matter how bad their image maybe. But here? pfft! So aside from the video of the episode where Larry King interviewed the idols for the second time, here are some notes why Pinoys shine better abroud than here in the Philippines.
(1) There are no crab mentality among networks in the US. Larry King live is owned and produced by CNN, a sister company of Warner Bros which guested on their show the stars of American Idol. The show is licensed under fox network. They doesn’t care if their guest are from a rival network since what matters most is exposure of the stars. Here in the Philippines you will never see an ABS CBN show do an interview about GMA7 stars and vice versa. That is how selfish, greedy and immature networks here in the Philippines.
(2) As much as possible, the handlers of the stars are doing their best to promote good image of their talents. Here in the Philippines, the more disgusting and horrible the scandal is, the better. Oftentimes, the source of the infamous scandals are their handlers themselves in order that the star can be the talk of the town inconsiderate of the fact that it will do no good to the image of the star. That is how twisted the Public relations here in the Philippines.
(3) Most of the stars in the US are not exclusive, meaning they are free lancers when it comes to guesting. Here in the Philippines, once you are tied with the networks, you have nowhere to go to except that tiny part of the boobtube where their frequency belongs.
(4) Most of the press and writers in the US are professionals meaning they do not mix personal preferences with their job as writers and columnists. Here in the Philippines, once a star forgot to greet a certain showbiz writer, expect that the next day, the writer will publish all sorts of negative write ups about the celebrity. Take it from Christy Fermin! Di pati nasusuhulan ang mga writers dun.
(5) Stars in the US are not over-exposed. Here in the Philippines, fame and stardom only last when you are seen on TV. In the US, even though an actor or musician have been on hiatus for years, when they resurface, they still have that glitter on their forehead. That’s how shallow Pinoy showbiz culture is.
(6) We have star complex here in the Philippines. Most shows and films are tailor made for star-wannabes. While in the US, they first let the actors audition for the part and they choose the one who best fits the role.
(7) and lastly, stars in the US have real talents. You can seldom see actors and actresses in the US who doesn’t know how to sing and precisely because they have studied acting, singing and dancing before their agents peddle them in different outfits and auditions. That is why their stars are so versatile. Unlike here in the Philippines, having a face value is already enough to become a star even if the celebrity has a peanut size brain, tone deaf voice, a horrible acting ability at boses p_ _ e.
No wonder Charise Pempengco, Leah Salonga, and Arnel Pineda are more successful abroad than here in our very land.
Watch the interview of Larry King live with the rising stars of American Idol and you will notice how mature these people are in conversing with the host and intelligently answering some of the questions their fans ask them. They are very different from the usual stars we see and cheaply presented on Philippine TV.

ay totoo yan! no matter how big a star you are, you still have to audition in US. dito pati billing ginagawang issue…kesyo maliit lang ang pagprint ng name at medyo nasa huli….HUH?!?! parang hello?!?!?!?! dito kelangan mestiza or mestizo ka rin or else you’ll end up as a comedian na pwedeng apak apakan na lang.

duh ulit.

siguro bluep hindi natin pwede i-blame lahat sa showbiz industry, maybe they’re just catering for what the mass audience wants. hahaha
pero agree ako sa talent portion, hindi lang plus factor and talent sa US. yun ang basic, the rest are just icing on the cake.

haha I DISAGREE PARE hahah
It’s the Media People who dictates want the masses wants.
