Superficial improvements on Pinoy Idol (Wk 9 - Ep. 11, 12 & 13)

297

Okay, I go online and then I am bombarded by some of the nastiest haters on the planet. But hey, it’s okay. This is a free country right? but then again we should all have our limitations. I still can’t believe that every time I blog about Pinoy Idol and voice out my opinion there are new interesting characters err… hecklers that surface on my blog. Who will it be this time? Kala nyo ayoko, hinde! Sumasaya araw ko pag may nakikipagtalo sa akin na fans ni Jolens sa walang kapararakang bagay tulad ng Pinoy Idol. Yun ba namang mag blog ako ng tungkol sa Greenpeace, politics at catholic spirituality eh walang nagbabasa, tapos all of a sudden, this uber trivial and senseless show that I write about and use as inbetweens for my Ka pepe instantly catches everybody’s attention. Pag di ka naman napakamot sa anit mo hanggang dumugo oo. And speaking of anit, muntik muntikan na rin naman ako makalbo sa katatawa nung Biyernes, Sabado at Linggo. You guessed it right. NANOOD ULI AKO kala nyo. Hindi kumpleto ang linggo ko pag hindi ko iblinog ang latest happening sa Pinoy Idol. So to you HACKER na bago ko besprend sa cyberspace, para sayo to pare. I dedicate this post to your heart’s content. So May improvement nga ba?

Let’s see. Aside from the neon lights that were removed from the judges table, there are some improvements on the show like
(1) The extension of platforms of both sides of the round stage
(2) The elimination rites were done in a “nice” way. Not good but nice.
(3) The performance of (some of) the contestants improved
(4)wala na tatlo lang ang nakita ko

What I have complained about the show on my last week’s post “Early Death Of Pinoy Idol” stays true and the same till the last episode of Sunday night. To think that after tons of complaints that the show harvested from different fora on the net and the recent flop on the ratings, the production team will do everything to revitalize the show. But no. Mediocrity runs on the program and hubris flow through the veins of the director.

  • they still stubbornly show the clouds at the background
  • the editing was still bad
  • the studio is still cramped
  • the performances are still taped
  • the chairs are still eyesores
  • the the lights are still bright
  • the plain idol logo that is pasted on the wall is still ugly
  • and yes, the Lipton tea mug is still awkward and laughable.

Some points that I want to reiterate are:
(1) Raymond Gutierrez is getting worse every week. His spiels is getting dull and boring every episode. his nasal voice is still annoying and his high pitch tone every time he gags for air give away clues on his true sexuality. The outfit is ridiculous. The “Baston pants” is atrociously screaming for oxygen and his tux is so queer. and what’s with the tube or seemingly a tube under his tux? may cleavage ba na dapat ipagmalaki? LOL. During the elimination night, as the camera focused on his three tiered chin, it was so obvious that the annoying host was reading his spiels. I can’t believe that no one in GMA 7 is telling the guy that he lacks spontaneity. He is killing the show by becoming a robotic blabber instead of a human hostess haha. If I were the director I would immediately remove the idiot board in front of the host and let him talk naturally. His almost cliche reaction on Ogie’s almost redundant comment of “you are looking good” is repetitive as the mantra of buddhist monks. I won’t get tired of telling the Network to fire the darn dummy off the show for he is as effeminate as ever. Not that being one is bad, its just that Gutierrez is an exemption and he tires a lot of viewers by his lack of emotions. Isn’t it amusing taht a host is effeminate and robotic at the same time? Here is one interesting comment of Nestor Torre about Raymond Gutierrez:

The proceedings are further dampened by the desultory work of Raymond Gutierrez as the tilt’s program host. His problem appears to be his mistaken notion that hosting is mainly a matter of saying the right things at the right time, and to keep the proceedings on fairly even keel.

He fails to factor in the tilt’s human dimension, which is sorely tested on “PI” by the stress the finalists are constantly exposed to.

It’s OK for the competition’s judges to be cool and “objective,” but the host has to feel for the contestants, to help them cope with the extreme emotions they have to contend with. Much of the time, Raymond fails to provide this necessary support. In addition, his speaking voice is pitched too high, so he needs to modulate—big time.

(2) The Judges are perfect tools for inducing sleep and drowsiness. It is as if they are deaf and blind to the performances of the contestants. Many times Ogie Alcasid praised some performances that are so worse that you can hear the notes being murdered by cymbals and tin cans. And most of the time, he is not even satisfied with other contestants performance that are truly exemplary. Ano magagawa natin kung bulag at bingi yung tao? Then as for Jolens, my ever favorite Jolens, her comments are so generic that even my parrot can easily learn what she is saying. You can really sense that her brains escaped from her nostrils because of the absence of intelligence and technical expertise on the musical parlance. And what’s with the microphone? I admit, I always get aroused everytime I see jolens holding the microphone as she speaks. haha figure it out. And Mr. Tracy has nothing to say except for the dress and clothes of the contestants. I think he is so disoriented that he has mistaken Pinoy idol for Starstruck.

(3) the website still sucks. Until the writing of this entry, there have been no updates yet regarding the show’s result last night. And the nerve of Hacker to tell us that their website is very interactive. Heck the photo section was not even clickable. The forum settings are unmanageable and their are so many broken links on the site. I dare say that the Pinoy Idol website will truly eat dust when compared to other Pinoy Idol blogs.

(4) The band really needs to be replaced. I want to throw our TV every time I see Hitler on the Keyboard. The Keyboard drowns the other instruments and the quality of the guitar lacks distortion. It is likened to a Christian combo that are on the streets, begging and preaching for alms. The sound destroyed my eardrums because of the pitch. And the microphone stand on the stage? Is it a comedy bar or what? If ever a meteor would fall on manila, it’s first target is the dilapidated Pinoy Idol studio for housing such a horrible band.

Well I guess the contestants are compensating for the lack of enthusiasm of the staff to really liven up the show because they fought back with their good performance. Never mind the judges and the host, plus the fact that the technical aspect of the show sucks, and the director, stubborn as a mule. After all, it is the contestants that will shine at the end of Pinoy Idol’s brief and unmemorable existence on Philippine TV.

How many weeks will the viewers stand this media agony? The viewers are angry because GMA7 and its queer directors and host are desecrating what used to be a sacred altar for future pop stars, fortunately, glamorized by the once immortal Philippine Idol of ABC 5.

BTW, here is the very first episode of Philippine Idol on ABC 5, watch the big difference of the editing, hosting and judging between Philippine Idol and Pinoy Idol. Kayo ang humusga.

PINOY IDOL MONITOR
Week 9 Top 20 Elimination Night
June 1, 2008

Four of the hopefuls were booted out. Regene is a unique singer but her performance on friday night was so bad that I can’t help but compare her to a drunken master. Vren Villaflor deserved to be removed on Pinoy Idol because she’s not a superstar material. I guess Ogie was slapped on the face when after he praised Vren for her performance that is so utterly uninspiring, the people decided that she should end her journey right then and there. Sherwin was also booted out because of diction and pronunciation difficulties. He should have removed his retainers for crying out loud. But what shocked me is the elimination of Rye Estrada who I think doesn’t deserve to be booted out. I was rooting for that tattooed guy warren antig to be voted out because I think he is just growling when he sings.

ba’t kelangan ng mga hack hack na yan? is that the way a professional acts? is that the breeding that Pinoy Idol management instill in their people? hindi ninyo kelangan mag-away. learn from each other. the truth is, hindi lang naman kami ang nagsasabi that PI looks really cheapipay to the point that you end up having no choice but to change channel. even yung die hard “idol idol” fan na friend ko nadisappoint.

what we are saying is this, if pinoy idol continue to stand by with their current direction, it will lead them to a complete flop. hindi pa ba obvious na CONCERNED ang mga tao dito?

hacker, open your mind. something is wrong. learn or go down the drain… yan lang naman ang direction ng show eh. babaan ng konti ang pride kasi walang patutunguhan yan. if i were you, i’ll ask what can be improved and make changes… wala rin naman mawawala eh.

i tried watching the show again and pareho pa rin ng dati, nabore ako… from the contestants to the judges to the host… wala… i changed channels pa rin. hindi ako naghahanap ng away o ano man pero yan ang totoo. it’s really boring.

First, I like your blog.

The Phillipine Idol top 24 was done in one of the cinemas in Megamall, also not as big, but the production team utilized the space very well, and the set was also meticulously constructed, infact it was spectacular.

Before that, the trimming down to the top 24 was held at the CCP, giving the contestants and everyone else involved a sense of formality and awe.

The Philippine Idol production team together with a Freemantle representative (if I’m not mistaken) also held auditions for the judges and the host (except for Maestro Ryan who was handpicked), giving the show a neutral feel to it - neither Kapuso nor Kapamilya.

I must confess that when I heard about the judges for Pinoy Idol, mediyo nabilaukan ako. Hindi ko pa kilala si Raymund G., and how he would be as host, but soon as I caught a segment on Youtube, goodness gracious, TALO. I watched one episode on tv and since vowed nevere to support this insult of a show.

I’ve started to watch Pinoy Dream Academy and I find this talent search to be more entertaining and informative with its credible mentors/teachers, people who know what they’re talking about.

I share your disgust with Jolina “may- improvement-ka-pero- dagdagan -mo-pa-sana-okey?” Magdangal. Oh please Jolina, spare us.
